Can I sell this dress? How do I do it?

I have a Watters bridesmaid dress that I wore in 2004 and it's still in my closet. It was tailored to me and is in pretty good condition, it just needs to be steamed or ironed. I wish I could sell it but I've never sold anything larger than dvds or books online so I'm clueless. Can I put in on craigslist or ebay or something? Anyone have experience with selling dresses? I don't even know what I could charge for it. $50 if I'm lucky?

Here is the dress, I know I would probably need a better picture...

Re: Can I sell this dress? How do I do it?

  • I honestly don't know if you could get $50.00 for it on Craiglist, but you could list it and see if you get any responses.  You could try a consignment store and see how much you might get for it.  I'm sure you could find some "bridal" ones somewhere.  Never hurts to try.  I would also just keep it in he bathroom for a few days too while your family showers to see if any of the creases will fall.  The better condition you sell it in, the better price you would probably get.  Good luck!
  • Because its 4 years old, I would try consignment shops. You won't find anyone searching for it online b/c its no longer a style that they carry.

  • This is a really dumb question but-- if I take it to a consignment shop, do I need to get it cleaned and steamed first? Basically, do I have to make sure it's in the very best condition before bringing it anywhere?
  • Yes, you would want to have it cleaned first. I sold a DB BM dress on Ebay but listed that I had not had it cleaned, it was like $50 to have it cleaned! If you take it to a consignment shop, they will want it to be clean.

  • Thanks. It's probably not worth my time and effort at this point, lol.
  • If you're not going to take it to a consignment store, just stick it in your/someone you know's next garage sale.  I've seen these types of dresses sold at garage sales pretty frequently.  You're probably not going to get even close to $50, but its more $$ than you have right now, right?
