Beach vacation help please

What is your favorite beach vacation spots in the US or Caribbean in March or April? My only requirements are that it is not in Florida and preferably not the West Coast. We are looking for a nice little vacation around this time. I was thinking maybe somewhere in South Carolina but the weather is so iffy then.

I lived in the Dominican Republic and one thing I didn't get to do but wanted to was to go whale watching in March while they're migrating off the coast of Samana... since I didn't go, I can't recommend where to stay/what accomodations are like.
There are lots of AI resorts near Punta Cana (SE side of the island), other lower-key hotels/some AI resorts are in Cabarete and whenever I went to the beach for a weekend I usually stayed at a nice, albeit simple, resort in Sosua (near Puerto Plata).
There are plenty of beaches/hotels to choose from (all over the Caribbean) at all different price points, depending on what you want.
