Need gift help for a new mom

Soooo. A few weeks ago, my friend from college had her baby. She is 41, single, and had a friend's gay brother donate his sperm so she could have a baby. It's really pretty impressive of her (in my opinion).

Anyhow-- anyone have a good idea for a baby gift (up to $50 or thereabouts) for a new mom, especially one who is a single mom?

  • I should add, too, that I can't give her food/prepped meals because she has food issues that are pretty extensive (kind of allergies, but not quite).

I was thinking a Moby because she says she can't do anything with her hands full of baby and he's too young yet to go in the Bjorn...

A Moby was the first thing that came to my mind.

  • Honestly, what I wanted most after DD was born was sleep (not gonna happen!) and someone else to handle food and household chores.

I know you said not food, but are there any restaurants or anything nearby where she could use a gift certificate? Or a gift basket of snacks that she can eat? I used to keep a box of granola bars next to the chair where I fed DD at night because it was a fast and easy one-handed snack.

This! I still wish I had more help at 8 weeks. Maybe offer her a day/night where you come clean her house and run errands or hold baby while she naps, etc. or give her a gift certificate for a cleaning service.

  • I think a moby is a great gift if she doesn't already have one.

  • We love our moby.

  • DD couldn't stand the Moby and it was a pain in the butt for me, we loved the Ergo but either way the first thing that came to mind was a carrier for the baby since she wont ever have that extra set of hands to help out!
  • Moby it is, then!

She lives in NJ, so helping her out physically is impossible... but I can definitely send her something to free up her 2 hands and let her wee fella still snuggle!

    Good choice!
