Summer Vacation Help

So we were going to go to an AI this year at the end of the Summer but I'm tempted to wait for our 5 year anniversary and just go somewhere else this year that's not as expensive.

We went on a cruise last year (which was fun but I really like to go with a couple and this is a solo trip) and we went to Miami the year before that. Where is another Summery place we could travel that wouldn't be expensive? The only thing that popped into my head was Key West but the only negative would be that it's not really a beachy place. Could I lay out in the sun in Key West? That might be a dumb question.

Any other ideas? Is there anywhere in the Caribbean that would be reasonable to fly to?

Happiest place on Earth!

Re: Summer Vacation Help

  • I've never been to Key West, but my dad and his girlfriend who are major beach people (and Jimmy Buffett fans Big Smile ) go about once every other year and LOVE it. I don't know how much time they spend laying out, but they practically live at the beach during the summer, so I would think that would be a big part of the trip for them.

  • What about the Virgin Islands?  St. John or St. Thomas?  That's beachy and you could lay out and snorkel.

Panama City Beach, FL or somewhere like that?

    Charleston, SC. :-)  *ahem, ahem*.

  • A couple of years ago, I went to Puerto Rico with a group of friends, and it was surprisingly inexpensive (I only spent $700 on the whole week, including airfare which was $300 round trip from Rochester, NY) and beautiful!  We stayed in San Juan in an apartment-type time-share rental.  It wasn't anything fancy, but it was right on the beach and within walking distance to everything.  We used taxis for transportation to the bigger places, and there were excursion companies located right in the lobby of where we stayed.  We visited the rainforest, Old San Juan, a couple different beaches, took a catamaran snorkeling trip, and did kayaking in the bioluminescence bay which was awesome.  All of the trips were inexpensive, and it was a lot of fun!

Are you right in Charleston? I do like that area a lot :)

The Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are good ideas too! Thanks guys. I'll compile a list and see what DH wants to do.

  • Cancun is fairly cheap.

If you're willing to drive up to DC, BWI has a lowcost airline called USA3000 that flies cheap to a bunch of places in the caribbean.
