My baby is huge!

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday for a growth ultrasound and my first internal exam. According to the growth scan, baby is about 7lbs 2 oz right now! That's in the 92.5%!!! He is also sitting really low and my doc said she didn't know how I was still actually getting around because of all that weight down in my pelvis. I'm also already 50% effaced and a fingertip dilated. It's so weird to think that things are getting ready at this point.

He's a happy little guy though with a strong heartbeat and good practice breathing and his favorite pastime is sticking his feet in my ribs. He just needs to wait a few more weeks to make his debut because I really don't want a February baby and especially not a leap day baby.

ETA: I also forgot to say that he has a full head of hair. Like, long hair. It certainly would explain all the heartburn if the old wives tales are true.

Re: My baby is huge!

  • Whoa!  Hopefully he doesn't gain too much more before he makes his debut!  My cousin and Shaun's cousin both just had a 9+ pounder so I'm hoping I'm not in that boat too!

Sending vibes that he stays put for another month!

  • Have fun pushing that one out - eeeesh!!! In all seriousness, I'm glad he's healthy and apparently happy and that you get to meet him soon!

I'm curious as to why you don't want a February baby? Although I definitely get the leap day thing - that would be so weird!

  • Whoa! He's gonna be huge! I hope you're last few days of pregnacy aren't uncomfortable but I know it'll all be worth it once you meet him.

Well technically I'll be full term (37 weeks) on the 27th, it just seems too soon to me! I want him to cook as long as possible so his little lungs are developed and I think I've just had March in my head this whole time so February just seems wrong. I know he'll come when he's ready, but I'm not sure I'll be ready until then!

    I'll keep that in mind!

I'm actually convinced that he's coming on the 8th because it's a full moon. He'll probably be late just to be a pain in the butt as long as possible.

Actually Feb 28th is an even better day...and it's almost not even Feb, so it'd be almost like having a March baby :)

Can't believe you and Mel are so close...can't wait for these little guys to get here!

  • Heh, given that you're one of the few people that I look eye-to-eye to, Liz, I'm not surprised!  Tall parents breed big babies, it seems!  At my growth scan at 33w 5d, Milo measured 6 lbs, but two days later at his birth, he was actually 6lbs 10.6 oz.  And he grew steadily ever since (he's over 26 lbs now)...

Have you started getting the "do you have GD?" question yet?  Almost every nurse, and several others, asked me that after they saw how big he was at birth... noooo, I passed, he's just a big kid!

You may want to minimize the NB size clothes you have for your little one, if he's anything like Milo, he may not even need newborn stuff.  Milo came home from NICU at 37w2d and he was squeezing into some things already.

So great to see he's a nice and healthy size!  But yes, keep him cookin' as long as you can!

Yes and H was apparently 9lbs when he was born, with a heart condition! My doc thinks I won't have any problem in delivery because he is so low already and yes, I'm pretty tall and have big hips.

I think the only NB clothes we have are 1 sleeper and 4 onsies. They were all gifts. I haven't picked out his coming home outfit yet, but it probably won't be any of that!

Early delivery notwithstanding, Milo was really low too, and he practically shot out, it seemed.  I remember feeling that last week like he had dropped and I had a bowling ball between my legs.  Hopefully your dilation will continue apace and you won't have a long labor!

  • Woohoo!! I can't even imagine how almost ready you are to see him make his appearance!

I was almost 9 pounds when I was born...my Mom said it was a tough ride but totally worth it having a chunker like me. Let's hope he arrives when he's good and ready. :)

  • This reminds me of what I heard at my final ultrasound with Merritt!  She was 7 lbs 4 oz and in the 93rd percentile.  She came out a week early and weighed in at just under 8 pounds.

I'm so happy to hear he had a strong heartbeat and was healthy!
