As I obsessively check our bank account for our tax refund (yay!) I figured a poll would be fun!
-Are you getting a tax refund, or paying?
-If you're getting a refund, what do you plan to do with the $$?

Re: wake up the board poll!
We're getting a pretty substantial (IMO) refund, thank you, baby!
We're putting half towards our new air conditioner (wah) and the rest in savings for the hopeful move this summer.
Yes. Ours is actually lower than normal, even with having the baby! I guess w/ DH's job situation, we haven't paid in as much....so we don't get as much back.
We received ours Friday. We got all fancied up and treated ourselves to a nice dinner OUT. We have barely left the house in months...certainly not for a date. Other than that, I'm saving it for now. Under normal circumstances, I'd use it to knock out a few remaining debts. I'm hoping DH finds a job soon so I can still use it for debt and not....bills/groceries.
ETA: refund received!
Our tax appointment is on Saturday and I'm freaking out.
Neither of us paid hardly any taxes throughout 2011. I'm self employed now and was supposed to pay quarterly but I didn't.
Plus, we have to pay taxes on our rental income from our LA house which is a crapload of money, even though it went straight to our mortgage (they didn't record it last year).
PLUS, we have to pay back our 6k purchase incentive credit thing from when we bought our first house in LA because we now live in FL.
We will definitely owe well into the five figure range. Ugh. I guess this is payback for getting to work at home in my pajamas all day
I'm thinking it might benefit us to go to an accountant. We're getting a decent amount back (that will go straight into savings,) but we're also getting royally screwed since DH made so much more than me this past year & I'm getting taxed in his tax bracket. I'm a contractor (only for one more day...yay!) so I pay all of my taxes. I set aside 20% of my paycheck and put it into a different account so we have it at tax time and don't have a bunch of money to come up with to pay my taxes. Well w/DH's bracket, they're trying to take 33% of my salary to taxes.
Luckily we were getting a huge return so even with this we get money back....but it's substatially less than it was.
I did our taxes this past weekend. Mostly, I'm just really happy to have it done(!!), but yes we're getting some money back. We're not doing anything "extra" with it - in effect it is going into savings.
The worst part about doing taxed is definitely the rental house. Putting in all my expenses/depreciation vs rental income, having it come out to a loss, and then not being able to deduct it. Boo.
