What are you reading?

I'm a total bookwhore these days.  NBC is currently my favorite board to lurk on ever since I got my Kindle.  I have 7 books out from the library at the moment and two weeks to read them.  I'm a moron, ha.

Currently reading The Chesapeake Bay saga by Nora Roberts (yes I'm hanging my head in shame a little)

On deck: Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace, Divergent by Veronica Roth and Minding Frankie by Maeve Binchy.

I recently read the Hunger Games trilogy in about a week flat.  I'm obsessed and cannot wait for the movie.

Re: What are you reading?

  • I currently have two books on loan from the library on my Kindle, both popular choices on here.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and book 2 of the millenium trilogy, The Girl Who Played With Fire.

I have A Game of Thrones on hold while I read these.

  • I'm currently reading "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest".  I have an Anita Shreve book up next, but my friend just highly recommended "Cutting for Stone" by Abraham Verghese. She said it was one of the best books she ever read.
  • I just started the Paris Wife, which I'm really enjoying.

    Loved the Paris Wife!

  • I just started The Hunger Games yesterday.  I'm moving through it very quickly.  I was told it's a little slow starting out, so I wanted to start it before I went on my trip. I have a hard time starting a book on a plane usually.  Now I'm thinking I will need to add Catching Fire to my Kindle before we go away.

I started Unbroken weeks and weeks ago and I just couldn't get into it.  I'm only 4% finished according to my Kindle, but it feels like I was reading it forever.  I'm not sure if I will go back to it.

I also downloaded My Horizontal Life by Chelsea Handler for some light reading.  I loved Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea.

"Cutting for Stone" was excellent! Just finished "the Marriage Plot" by Jeffrey Eugenides, which I liked very much. Great character development and plot. I liked it so much that I am now reading his book "Middlesex" which I'm also enjoying. I think I'm behind the times on that one though, since it was an Oprah Book Club pick around 2002!

  • Jess - I currently have 4 books checked out of the library because I've been on a reading kick lately.  It's something to do while I pump 3 times a day at work.

Just finished The Girl Who Played With Fire and Anna and The French Kiss (quick easy, predictable chick lit - I needed something super light after the first two Larsson books).

I'm now reading The Help and I have Bossypants and Delirium (sci-fi similar to Hunger Games) on deck.  Oh, and I'm trying to read a couple books on babies and sleep solutions but they definitely aren't as interesting.

Would you mind possibly giving me a quick rundown how to borrow library books via Kindle? We have a Fire and I'd love to do this for not only myself but for Hunter, too. If it's too complicated, don't worry about it. TIA!

It's not hard, at least at my library.  They use overdrive.com, which I think lots of library systems use.  On my library's website, there is a link for ebook download which opens in a separate window with overdrive.  There you can see what they have and check it out (or in my case I usually have to request and wait for it).  When you can check it out, it has basic instructions where you have to sign in using your library sign on.  Then it opens an amazon window where you just click a button to download it to your kindle.  It will download to the kindle automatically or next time it's connected to wifi.  It automatically becomes unavailable after the lending period.

Hmmm. Veddy interesting. I'll give this a try when I get home assuming that my library uses that system. I may have further questions for you. Stay tuned! :)

  • Please do.  It's a big cumbersome, but not hard.  Is your library in the Bucks County library system?  Looks like they use override, it's a very small link on the bottom of the screen.

  • I just started The Art of Racing in the Rain last night, kindle library loan. My only issue with the library lending is that it feels like all of my books become available at once. I feel like I either have nothing to read or 4 books ready to take out at the same time. I've got to figure out a better system for spacing out my holds.
