Gold Medallion Status with Delta - Upgrade?
What are my chances of an upgrade if I have gold medallion status with Delta? It's a cross country flight from Vegas to Virginia, FWIW. I usually fly Southwest or United and have status with both but my company just offered a status match with Delta so now I'm gold medallion. With United I am always upgraded. Before purchasing tickets on Delta I wanted to find out about my chances of an upgrade. If they aren't high, I'll just book on United.

Is your flight connecting through ATL, SLC, MSP, or CIN? If it's through ATL your odds are slim; any of the other airports will give you better chances. The Vegas flight is an unlikely upgrade regardless of where you connect through, but the Virginia one has a chance if you're not going through the ATL (just too many people with status in ATL).
I fly Delta a decent amount because they're partner airlines with my status airline, and I've been asked why I don't move my mileage plan over to Delta since I do more of the cross-country trips with them, and the truth of the matter is I just think they have way too many people with status to get upgraded consistently until you're at Platinum (but even then, I'm often on flights that have 5-6 Diamond members on it, so it's still iffy at best).
Ditto the above.
With all these airline mergers you have to be really high up to get the upgrades. A friend is Diamond and found that, after the merger, she stopped getting upgrades. Similarly, I got upgraded about half the time on United just being Premier. Now I'm Premier Exec but because of the Continental merger, I rarely get upgraded.
