Little heLp for an out of stater??

I was hoping you ladies could give me some recs on where to stay and things to do in the Baltimore area? We are planning a visit with another couple in the middle of April, we both have young daughters just over 2. Someone suggested the Hyatt....what are your thoughts? As I began my research I saw there is a zoo and aquarium....are they any good?? Also what other attractions are there.  We are thinking of staying for 3 or 4 nights? Any info you could give would be great! Thanks!

Re: Little heLp for an out of stater??

  • The Hyatt is nice. As is Marriott waterfront. Pier 5 hotel seems nice, never stayed there. The Renissance is in a good location and is also nice. My one experience staying there was that while very nice it was a hotspot for bachelor/bachelorette parties (proximity to bars) and it was very loud very late. The aquarium is amazing and your kids will love it. I haven't been to the zoo in a while, but I know a lot of the regs on the board take their kids there so I would guess it is still nice. There are tons of great restaurants in the city and if you have an idea of what you like I am sure we can overwhelm you with suggestions. I don't have kids so I suck for ideas of things to do other than the zoo and aquarium. There are a lot of festivals in Baltimore and I suggest checking the Maryland tourism website for lists of things going on when you will be here.
  • Hyatt is nice, there are other nice ones so see what you can get a deal on and check back with us

For kids, the aquarium, science center, and port discovery are all right there...the zoo is couple exits up I-83, not hard to get too and it's a good zoo but if you didn't want to drive, it's skippable

there is a super fun pirate ship cruise out of fells point, and you can take a water taxi or charm city circulator to fells point...

  • I can't really comment on hotels, but Aquarium is fun, but its pricey and you can't bring in strollers.  If you want to go for yourselves, you will enjoy it, but I didn't think it was particularly great for little kids.  The Science Center is fun (and much cheaper) and has a great little kid explorerer center.  Port Discovery is good too.  Zoo is up the road on 83 (about 20 minutes from downtown) and really great for kids/families.  If your kids are into trains, the B&O Railroad Museum is fun too.
