My sis is in the application process (waiting to hear back from the admissions offices) for grad school to become an Occupational Therapist.
Quick question: How competive is this field? And, how competitive are the programs of study?
She has her undergrad in the Fine Arts (dance).

I've been an OT for 15 years. At that time it was VERY competitive. Between my school and the University of Minnesota (2 of 3 colleges in the state with OT) 100 students were admitted each year. This was back when it was a BS program, not a master's program.
I'm not sure if they have specific undergrad degrees they are looking for for applicants, but I would think those with psychology, kinesiology, biology, and other science related ones might get priority.
I would recommend that she has racked up a lot of volunteer hours with therapists or related areas.
Jobs vary throughout the country. I left Minnesota because that market was saturated. Here in CO I have never had a problem finding a job.

Yes, programs are competitive nationwide. I believe our program received about 400 applications for 26 spots (small, private university). Unfortunately with an undergrad in Fine Arts, she will be at a disadvantage because she more than likely has not completed many of the prerequisite classes for admission nor will have many of the clinical observation hours that her psychology/kinesiology counterparts will have completed.
If she is not admitted but set on it, I'd encourage her to take the classes she is missing, get a killer GPA and reapply. Good luck to her!
I know she has completed all of the prerequisities each of the schools she has applied to require. All of them she has acheived A's and a few B's. And, I know she has s ton of volunteer hours. But are those hours the same as clinical observation hours? I guess the other question would be what about GRE scores? She is a super hard worker and very dedicated, but isn't a good standardized test taker. I think her score was a little on the low side, would that automatically put her app in the reject pile?
Each program as different requirements so only they will make that decision of how her test scores will affect her admission. Great to hear she is on the right track!
