Hi everyone -
Things have sure been crazy so far in 2012. Work has been so busy then with the anniversary and V-Day and mom/MIL birthdays we have been having a lot of us/family time and I have been so away from the computer. Most days I don't even want to look at it when I get home lol. So that's where I've been hiding. What's been going on with everyone? I need to get caught up!
Re: **comes out of hiding**
Hi there! Sounds like you've been busy! I've been having a rough couple of days, but it's been a good 2012 so far. I only have one more chapter left to write for my thesis and then I only have to do edits and defend on April 6.
On Monday I got my lab results back from recent blood work and found out that I have leaky gut syndrome, a chronic infection in my intestines, a low-functioning thyroid, and my hypothalamus isn't regulating the hormones in my body properly, so I have high testosterone levels, low luteinizing (sp) hormone, and high androgen. On top of that I have insulin resistance. Tomorrow I have to start something called the gaps diet (no grain, no sugar, no dairy, no caffeine, no starchy vegetables, no eggs, and no nightshade vegetables). I also have to eat lots of foods that have live cultures like raw sauerkraut, raw pickles, kombucha, and home made bone broth. The diet is supposed to fix what's going on in my intestines and counteract the insulin resistance. After a month on that diet we'll reassess and figure out how to get my hypothalamus to regulate itself. Ugh. I'm just happy this was caught before my hormones got too out of whack and caused PCOS (excess androgen can do that) or other infertility problems, or my thyroid dropped lower and I became hypothyroid.
Hi - welcome back! How's the new job going??
I'm super boring - running, working. YAWN! H graduated, which is exciting. Now I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that he beats the odds and gets a teaching job for the 2012/2013 school year!
OMG, Musgral! I'm sorry
You're right, it's great that you caught this before it got worse...but still that SUCKS! Do the doctors think you'll be able to eat a normal diet after doing this for a month?

After the first month it's going to go very slowly. We'll introduce new foods back in one group at a time for two weeks and monitor how I feel to see if that is the food group triggering the leaky gut syndrome. First will be starchy veggies, then nuts, then eggs, etc. etc. The doctor believes that I will have to be gluten-free forever, not because I have Celiac, but my body can't process gluten very well. It's stupid, but the thing that I'm most bummed about is that I was really liking the vegan diet and now I have to go back to eating dead animals

This is about the fourth time that doctors have had a "plan" to make me feel better, so we'll see if this time it actually works. I'm skeptical. Right now I can only eat bone broth, foods with good probiotics (raw sauerkraut, raw pickles), organic grass-fed/free-range animals, and low glycemic index veggies. I seriously had homemade french onion soup this morning minus crouton and cheese...it didn't last very long. Right now I'm making steamed cauliflower to mash with ghee and eat with sauerkraut.
Congrats on the progression with your thesis
I'm so sorry to hear about what's going on with your health. I am happy that it was caught early enough to be hopefully corrected by diet without too much else (as far as medication, etc.).That still sucks...I hope the doctor's are right about the diet and everything! You're definitely in my thoughts!
The new job is going pretty good. I didn't really get any training for the new position - I guess they figure since I've been there for 6 years in varying capacities I know everything? Idk...my boss and I get along well and work very well together which has made the transition into the new position overall smooth.
Haha running and working isn't boring. Woohoo - congrats H! My fingers are crossed for you guys
I'm glad it's going well - getting along with your boss makes for a great work environment. Thanks for the crossed fingers!
