I have 3 weeks, want to jumpstart weightloss etc. ideas?

Good morning, ladies!

So I have a doctoral defense 3 weeks from tomorrow! While writing up the thesis, I stopped running (15-20miles a week before), weights, yoga, etc. I also stopped being careful with what I ate. Now, I'm 8 lbs up (totally worth it in the big picture, but not something I would like to keep) and really motivated to get back to 'normal' before my defense on March 14.

So, any ideas for what to do/how to do it? I can (would like to!) be strict about food, exercise etc - that final doctoral degree thing seems like a huge motivator. But I'm nto sure where to begin. I'm back to running 8 miles last week, expect to hit 12 this week and 15 the week after. I'll reintroduce my other exercise this week, but I'm kind of stuck on food.

What to do to lose weight relatively quickly? I'm not looking for a crazy solution of a fad diet, just a relatively healthy jump-start. Can you suggest a way of eating (calorie counting, paleo, south beach etc) and a target calorie goal for 3 weeks worth of weight loss.

Thanks!

Re: I have 3 weeks, want to jumpstart weightloss etc. ideas?

  • Calorie counting would probably be your best bet and switching to a primal way of eating
  • Definitely calorie counting.  Livestrong and myfitnesspal are the ones I hear the most (I use Livestrong).
  • Losing weight quickly is a sure bet to set yourself up for failure. Why not refocus on being healthy?

Because sometimes you need to set goals and focus intently on accomplishing something. I am healthy, I have a defined goal, and I'm not looking for an insane solution. I don't think it's unreasonable.

  • Increasing your milage from 8 to 12 to 15 in three consective weeks seems like a huge bump very quickly to me. I would slowly add the miles rather than rush back to where you were.

I would also calorie count, but I ditto Sadlebred's advice to focus on being healthy rather than the number on the scale.

  • Drop all sugar and alcohol and drink lots of water.

That's probably the healthiest use of three weeks.

  • I lost about 8 lbs on the first two weeks of SB.  my diet was v. unhealthy prior to that though so I don't know that it would take that much weight off if I did phase I now.  (before everyone gets all 'ZOMG FAD!!!!!!!!!!' I've been following SB principles for nearly 7 years and I've not put the 40 lbs I lost back on to date.)

Ditto this! I would also suggest calorie counting, thedailyplate.com aka Livestrong is my life saver.

I am confused. If you are healthy, why are you asking us for help? Calorie counting and exercise is the way to go. I feel as if you are "fishing" for a quick solution when you are not.

You can accomplish alot in 3 weeks by following those two rules.

My friend came up with a great name for that - "thes-ass".

    lmao.

Seriously, though, I'm a 'regular' exerciser and mostly healthy eater who had to take 8+weeks off for non-physical reasons (so I'm not recovering from injury or anything). I'm not starting from scratch and I'm not looking for a fad diet, but I would like to jumpstart my return to my old self.

I think my everyday routine is already healthy. I put on weight for obvious and temporary reasons, and I want it off in a quick but not impossible time frame. n the two weeks since my thesis went in, I haven't gained but I haven't really lost anything. this could be because I'm not back to 100% with my exercise, or it could be that my normal plan keeps me stable but doesn't exactly take stuff off.

I was hoping for suggestions for where to begin. I don't do SBD (never have) or paleo or any of that - I just try to eat less processed food in appropriate portions and exercise enough to feel good because of it. It's boringly ordinary. So when it comes time to undo the thes-ass, I was looking for ideas.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to try calorie counting and slightly fewer bread products. goodbye sandwich thins, hello sweet potatoes.
