Fort Myers Beach

Has anyone ever been to Fort Myers Beach? It looks beautiful! I have 2 small boys 4 & 6 and I would love to go to a nice relaxing family beach with other things to do nearby but not amusement park type things. I have airline mile and my husband works for a hotel so I could get a great deal here but I would like to hear more about it from someone first hand. Do you think it would be good with kids? Thanks!

Re: Fort Myers Beach

  • My in-law's have done Christmas family trips to FMB a couple of times in the past. Unfortunately, trips thus far haven't included kids, but I can tell you that it was extremely family oriented w/ lots of kids there. BUT not too many to make it super annoying to the childless families (us).

Sorry, hope that made sense. :) Basically, I think that it's very child-friendly w/out being overtly annoying. We mostly golfed for our non-beach activities, so I apologize I can't inform you there. But all in all, I'd definitely recommend!

  • We went with our girls when they were 3.  We had a good time.

FMB is kind of cheesy (a number of obscene t-shirt shops, goofy bars, run-down hotels).  However, it's actually a great vacation for small children.  Lots of family-friendly restaurants and a really nice beach.  We stayed at Pink Shell, which was great for families.  It has nice pools for small children (zero entry and a splash park), a nice beach, and lots of condo-type options.

We mostly hung out at the beach and pool.  We did do a dolphin boat cruise (unfortunately, I can't remember the company we used).   Also, you could do a day trip to Sanibel/Captiva - which is beautiful (also having a lot of family-friendly options).  Good luck with your plans!

  • Fort Myers beach is very "vacation" oriented with tons of cheesy restaurants and bars withi walking distance of the beach. Upside is live music on the beach, downside is it is a lot of highschools kids and to s of loud people drinking bear. Much nicer is nearby sanibel and captiva islands, which are more remote but don't attract the same touristy crowd. Also nearby is Naples, with much cleaner beaches and a typically older demographic but has a lot to off kids in terms of water activities/small water park etc.. I personally only like ft. Myers beach in small doses because of the lowd crowd it attracts. Naples Beach club is an awesome place for families with live music etc on the weekends and an awesome pool area.
  • Sorry for the autocorrect fails in my last post...I am replying on my phone. I hope it was comprehensible!!
  • FMB is an excellent beach for kids- soft, soft sand (doesn't get hot and burn your feet), calm water, family-friendly restaurants. It's easy to avoid the "cheesy" gift shops and loud people if you stay a little bit south of the main area. There are lots of condos to rent, which is great for kids. The Lanikai is the "drinking hotel" and everything else is family friendly.
