diet pill recommendation

I was wondering if anyone has a diet pill they recommend (preferably one that can be bought in store).

I am eating healthy but don't have the time to work out. I work FT, take care of my DS, and take care of the house by myself (DH works offshore). My day usually begins at 5:30, I'm at work by 7 and work until 3:30/4. I pick up DS and usually get home by 5 and then play with him, feed him, and bathe him. He's usually asleep by 7:30/8 and then it's time for me to eat, shower, and get everything ready for the next day. I have no family around and it seems weird to hire a babysitter to go workout so if I'm to lose weight I'm left with eating healthier and looking into something that will help jumpstart my weightloss.

Re: diet pill recommendation

  • Healthy eating and exercise.  You are at the wrong place if you are hoping to find the secret to weight loss.

Sure it is difficult to find time to workout, but start by making small changes.  Do a workout DVD or take the baby for a walk, make time and set a good example for your baby.

  • Diet pill recommendation?  Don't bother.  If they worked, everyone would be skinny.

It's not weird at all to get a babysitter to work out.  When I was in high school, my next door neighbor traveled a lot.  His wife would have me come over for an hour in the morning to listen out for her sleeping daughter while she went running.  If this isn't something you want to do, then try going to a gym that has childcare.  Alternately, you could get a jogging stroller and take the kid walking or running with you.

What you should really really not do is waste money on diet pills.  They're ineffective and expensive at best, and dangerous at worst.

  • 1) Count calories. After all, it is possible to eat too much healthy food.

    2) Get up a bit earlier to exercise. I have been getting up at 4:45 so that I can run before work. You don't necessarily need to run, but you could walk or do an exercise video, or whatever you have available. My schedule is nearly identical to yours except that I get home a bit later. My H doesn't work offshore, but he travels internationally on a regular basis so he is often gone for 5-10 nights at a time.

    3) Pack all of your breakfasts and lunches for the week on Sunday so that you can get to bed earlier or cut a few minutes out of your morning routine.

  • We all have 24 hours in a day, it's about how you use them. Let me preface by saying I do not have children, but there are lots of moms on this board who also work and are able to squeeze in workouts. Start your workout at 7. Tell yourself "I'm going to workout for 15 minutes" and I'll bet you'll go longer than that!

I think it's a great idea if you get a baby sitter once or twice a week so you can workout!

You need to be healthy for your kid and diet pills are not the way to go!

  • First ditto above regarding diet pills. Also, it looks like you'll be ttc again soon. For that reason alone I would run screaming from the diet pill section of Walgreens.

Second - no. It's not odd to hire a babysitter. Depending on the age of your child you may be able to join a gym that provides this. A friend of mine hires a neighbor kid to come over and watch the kid for an hour while she is in the basement doing a workout video or running on the treadmill.

Finally, if you're just no ok hiring help, then maybe try to make your time with the kid more of a workout. Dump him in the stroller and go for a hard walk or something.

  • It's 70% diet and 30% exercise Count Calories and eat a balanced diet. Sparkpeople is free and can be accessed anywhere.

I work out during my lunch hour. It's the only free time I have. I have a 2.5 year old daughter who keeps me plenty busy in the evening. If I didn't work out during the day I would get some sort of babysitter or a gym that had childcare for a hour a day. I would try to go at least 3 times a week.

I do not recommend any sort of diet pills.

  • Honestly, I'm just looking for something to help jump start my weight loss not something that I will continue to use. I know that there is not magic pill that will help me lose weight which is why I am also eating healthier and counting calories (1200 a day). I realize that some of you may have lunch periods that allow you time to go work out but my lunch time is only 30 minutes long and since I have to eat at some point during the day I just don't have time to eat, work out, and still manage to look good enough to teach class. Now that the weather is nicer I do plan to start taking DS for walks in his stroller, provided he cooperates, but, honestly, I feel weird paying someone to take care of my child while I go work out.

  • How about this: You can name 14,000 more excuses for not living a healthier lifestyle, and maybe then one of us will say it's okay to use a non-FDA approved pill as a crutch for your vanity. Because pills aren't about being healthier or a spring board to a healthier lifestyle. Forming good habits, eating cleaner, and finding the time to take care of your body are.

No wonder you aren't losing! You are not eating enough.

One of my BFFs hires a babysitter so that she and her DH can go on "workout dates." Yep, they pay for a sitter and will ride their bikes or go to the gym on their dates.

I have a 30 minute lunch as well. More like 20 minutes. So, I don't workout then! There are a million excuses. Give yourself 4 weeks of doing a scheduled workout plan and it will become habit!

Think of your kiddo! She/he needs you to be healthy! You can't be a good mom if you aren't healthy!

I have a baby, go to school (19credits) and I am trainig for a 1/2 marathon. On mon, wed, fri I go to school from 8:30-2 I decided to leave my baby in daycare for an extra hour so I can get a work out in.

I have tried a lot of pills in the past & they really don't work. Like one of the other posters said "if diet pills worked we all would be skinny". It's true. You could also try something like Jillian Micheals 30 day shred- it's only 20 min long.

The thing is your the only one that can change you life & your weight.

    Good luck

  • can you pick your son up at daycare an hour later 3 days a week so that you can workout?  what about the weekends? gym daycare? a jogging stroller? wagon walks?

I don't understand this logic. If you believe that taking a pill will make you start to lose weight, then wouldn't you think that stopping taking that pill would make you stop losing weight? You can't rely on a pill. 1) It's not going to be effective, but more importantly it's just not healthy. Taking 30 min...30 min (do a workout video at home while your son is sleeping) to burn an extra 200-300 calories a day will do way more for your weightloss and body composition than any pill.

You're just not going to find any suggestions for diet pills here. So if that's all you're looking for (rather than other advice or alternatives) then you're probably not going to be happy.

  • Excuses...people come up with them all.the.time. So go ahead and play the martyr mother part. But lots of people do pay for a babysitter to take care of themselves. It doesn't mean your a bad mother. It means you care about your health.I am sure circumstances will change one of these days.

Sure you can try to find a wonder drug that will get you skinny quick but who knows if that will be good for your body or your want to TTC.

Can you do a workout video after your child goes to bed or before he wakes up?  Or invest in a treadmill for your home (which is what I did when my son was a baby.) I know it's very hard to juggle a job and a baby and still find the energy and time to work out. But diet pills really aren't the answer.

  • You're probably not eating enough calories at 1200 for your body to be okay with weight loss.

    http://www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial_BMR.php

This webpage will help you calculate your BMR.  You shouldn't eat below this amount--it's the calories your body needs to function properly.  Eat below it and your body will preferentially hang onto fat while breaking down muscle to feed your brain and heart.  Muscle is the main metabolic tissue of your body, so when you lose that, you burn fewer calories in a day and actually become more likely to GAIN weight.  It's why people who go on those idiotic diets gain more after they come off--they've lowered their metabolism.

You could also google "10 minute workouts" to get something you could do quickly after your DS is asleep.  Some of them are harder than you think, and every little bit helps.

  • Join a gym, and extend his bedtime. My kids used to go to bed at 7:30, and we've pushed it to 8:30. This allows me to haul everyone to the FREE gym nursery, so I can do Zumba, pilates, or just run. And the free time is amazing.

You may feel guilty leaving your child at first - I know I did. But in the end, a happy you is best for the family.

My gym has childcare onsite.  Free with membership.

Diet pills are not the answer.

  • I usually do the "30 day shred" at 8 when my daughter goes to bed.  It's a fast 20 min. workout and very effective.  Plus, it's cheap, under $20 @ Walmart.  If you don't have a set of free weights, use water bottles, or cans.

Cut out the processed, chemical induced foods.  Stop eating out, if you are.

Eat more fruits and veggies (especially veggies) than you are eating meat, and dairy.

Spend time searching for clean recipes rather than diet pills.

Watch "The Biggest Loser", it's a season of "No Excuses"...if you really want to lose weight and be healthy, you'll find a "Healthy" way.

  • Another idea..Do you have a friend who could help out?

Maybe you can watch their children while they workout, and vice versa?

Or, you and your husband can trade off?

  • The only type of pill that will make you drop weight quickly is something that will make you spend a week in the bathroom until you emerge dehydrated and thinking you look great.

There is no magic bullet.  There is only planning.

Plan to eat right, track your calories, plan time for working out.  If you need to, join a gym with child care or have someone babysit.  Honestly, not feeling right about paying someone to watch your child while you work out is a really really weak excuse.

  • If you're eating right and not exercising, you'll start to notice a big different when you start to exercise. I know it's hard to fit everything into a day, but it's a better way to go than pills. With pills, you'll gain the weight back as soon as you stop taking them, and there are none that are "good" for you.

Try fitting in something on your lunch break (speed walking maybe) or right after your DS goes to bed. It's going to be hard at first, but within a couple of weeks you'll notice some differences in your appearance and in your energy level, making it easier and easier as time goes on. GL!

  • Dude, I have 2 kids, my husbands overseas, I take classes online, I go to nursing classes 45 min away. I live in the middle of no where (serisously the nearest walmart is 45min away. I have cattle to feed, a house to clean, a child to potty train, and helping the older child with homework. Not to mention food, bath, bed with the boys. Yet I still find time to work out. I am only 3 months out from rotator cuff repair and I play softball already. So if I can not make excuess and get it done, you can. The sooner you stop making excuess the easier it will be.
