I have a few friends and people suggest that keeping a journal is a good thing and is a good outlet for letting emotions out and for being therapeutic for ones self. What do you think? Does anyone keep a journal here? Does it help you out at all? Just wondering what others think.

My blog: The Lizard Chronicles
Check out What's on Liz's Head
I have one hidden away but haven't written in it in a long time. I used it a lot in my teens and 20's, mostly as a way to express my own insecurities in a way that nobody else could see or judge me for them. Also it is good for reflecting back, like Liz said, to show how far you have come and grown from the emotions you express on paper.
Lately, I only do travel journals when we vacation. I like to write down restaurants, parks and sites, food items, and anything else from other cities that I want to remember down the line, especially on those vacation days where the liquor is flowing. If I don't write them down or take pictures, I tend to forget the names of places and such. I have found these journals to be helpful for when others are going to the same cities, I can clearly recall the places I enjoyed and don't have to rely solely on my stoner memory bank for it!
I kept a journal in my teens. By college I lost interest and time. After my first engagement ended, I started one up again, but now I only write in it when something is really weighing on my mind.
I highly recommend writing in a journal.
