Mardi Gras

Happy Fat Tuesday!

Anybody celebrating today? or Planning on giving something up or taking something on for the start of Lent tomorrow?

Not just for the Catholics out there... some people around where I'm from do it just for the sake of starting fresh. They give up a vice, challenge themselves with a goal, or take on an altruistic endeavor like volunteering.

I think I'm gonna try to kick my sugar-aholic habit. I love sweets lately.  And I am going to try and continue to train for the 1/2 marathon I've have planned for months in May with my siblings. --- I have kinda abandoned the training since I found out I was preggo-- but Dr. gave me the go ahead to go back to running/jogging at last visit, so fingers crossed.

Re: Mardi Gras

  • No, no plans here.  I'm probably going to continue making my little inspiration boards for wall art, and furniture bits in our house.  Just rearranged the furniture in my living room and I swear it's changed my life! haha

I sorta forgot you were preggs hun, how are you feeling?  You're not too far along yet are you??

  • There's really nothing I can "give up" food-wise with my half marathon running and training, or else I'll have a serious breakdown.

I thought about giving up socializing on the internet, but I'd be in the mental ward by April 8th.

Then I thought I'm sick of having things and people taken away from me by God, so I should be receiving puppies and ponies and cupcakes during Lent instead to compensate.

So long story short, I'm giving up being bitter for Lent. Every time I feel schitty about myself, being treated unfairly, and am feeling negative I am going to stop, count to ten, thank God for what I do still have, and pray for others who aren't as lucky as I am.

  • @moshi...This sounds pretty darn wonderful to me! I will jump on board with that for sure!

I have been thinking about this for about a week now, and I am not Catholic, but every year I try to participate in the "Lent tradition" just as a challenge...since I have been doing well with sticking to my New Year's Goals of making healthier choices (and have the weight loss to prove it! yae!), I am not sure what else I could 'give up'...but I really like Moshi's idea!

I am going to tack something else onto that as well...I am going to try REALLY HARD to give up worrying about/being frustrated about our current situation re: fertility...tomorrow is our 'big appointment' where we will find out the results of the M-A-N-Y tests that DH and I have had to undergo, and then sort out our next steps as well.  I am predicting that our journey is going to only get tougher, so I need to be in better spirits if I am going to emotionally survive this.

Here's to a "Happy Lent" everyone!

  • @ Brandz - Thanks! 11weeks- feeling really tired, and sluggish, and a little Squishy- not really showing yet, but packing on a few early lbs due to eating lotsa carbs- only thing I can stomach. :-( - but overall just excited and getting over the "holy shiz I'm growing a human" initial shock. It's still hush hush till next wk so I'm hoping to have a little more energy turning the 12 week corner.

@ moshi- great idea- I like the turn it into a positive thing for yourself. Positive attitudes bread positive outcomes and your thankfulness and kindness will be felt by all around you.

@ singing- good luck with your appointment, let us know about the results, you are in our thoughts and prayers and I hope you and your husband will get the answers you need from the appointment, and have some answers into your plans for a future family!
