Should I be freaking out about this? (TMI, I'm sure)

I'm scared to death to google this, so I figured this was the next best thing (other than calling the doc).  I've had two BM's today and both times, there has been blood when I wiped.  Both times it has been bright red.  Neither BM was big or anything, and I wasn't "trying" to go.  I don't have any pain.  There wasn't enough blood to like soak the TP or anything, but definitely  enough that I was aware of it.  Should I be freaking out??  Should I call the doc?  Also, not sure if it's related but I've been spotting on and off the past couple of days but haven't really gotten what I would call AF.  TIA!

  • Sorta sounds like it might just be internal hemorrhoids as they aren't painful. If you only noticed the blood when you touched the tp around your bum and not your vag that would be my guess. It really doesn't hurt to call the on call nurse or something at the hospital to see what they say. Better safe than sorry!
Nevermind me, I'm too distracted by my mini-carrots to think properly image

  • I would definitely call the doc, better safe than sorry, ya know? Although I'm sure it's "nothing".

  • Yeah, the bright red blood makes me think it's a hemorrhoid. Wouldn't hurt to get it check out, but I'm sure everything is fine.

  • Thanks, ladies!  I have an appointment for next Thursday for my yearly physical, so I think I'm going to call and ask if I can wait until or if I need to make an earlier appointment.

  • If it's just on the TP when you wipe, I wouldn't worry to much. If it's pooling in the toilet, i'd be a little more concerned.

This.  It happens to me every once in a while.  I wait to see if it happens the next day (which it never does for me) before I let myself panic! Hope it is nothing!

  • Could be fissures.  Usually they rec on OTC stool softener.

If it's a small amount just on tp and is bright red, I would ask at your physical. Don't forget or chicken out though.

ETA and tmi. They will ask if your bm was hard or soft (and what is it normally), unusually large, if it hurt, etc. So take note now so you don't forget.

  • I would call the Dr, they say whenever there is blood in your BM you should have it checked out.  It is probably nothing, but better safe than sorry!
  • Are you sure it's not AF?
  • I called the doctor's office to let them know.  They told me to just keep my eye on it and call back if it gets worse or if I have pain.  I'm going to mention it again next week at my yearly physical.

And no, it wasn't AF... that thought had crossed my mind too.

     Thanks again everyone!

  • I don't want to scare you, but I think you should ask for a colonoscopy to make sure.  I had something similar and given my age and family history, the doctors thought mine would just be hemorrhoids.  It turned out I had a huge colon polyp that 4 different doctors told me would almost certainly have turned into cancer within the next few years.

My blood wasn't very much, wasn't constant (i.e., it happened a few times over 3 or 4 months), no pain, etc.  If they aren't certain what it is after checking you out, get a colonoscopy.
