I think Jay was feeling old last night.

He finally went to the Doctor, upon my insisting, to get his blood pressure checked and discuss sleep apnea. They put him on medication for his BP. It is hereditary and we are not "salt" people. Nor do we eat a lot of processed foods. Therefore, the Doctor didn't think much of a lifestyle change would lower it enough.

When I asked if it was an everyday pill for life, he sighed and said, "Yup, I own it. I'm old." I felt bad. He's only 42. Then he fell asleep right after dinner like an old man. Stick out tongue

He will also make an appointment for a sleep study. Again, it's not like losing weight would even alter it. He's not a fat man by any means.

Re: I think Jay was feeling old last night.

  • Sad I'm sorry he's feeling that way but at least he's got some meds to help him stay healthy! I think it's normal to feel old about things like that and everyone has their own thing.

  • Jen - if you have any ?'s on Sleep Apnea, let me know. MH dealt w/Sleep Apnea. And like Jay, he isn't overweight. He finally got surgery 2 years ago and he says it's the best thing he could have done. He feels so much more refreshed now and wishes he would have done it years ago

Did he sleep with one of those machines for a while?

Yes, he had a CPAP machine. It didn't work well for him because MH suffers from PTSD from being in the military. So when he puts the mask on he gets really anxious and has night terrors

  • Ahh, I know the feeling!!   Because of my current issues, they have me on 3 different meds, and one of them I have to take 4 times a day!   I have a little pill box with me at work like a little old lady, and I have to make sure I drink a full glass of water with them.

Not sure if any of them will have to be forever everyday pills, but lately I have been feeling old myself.

Poor Jay, I hope everything works for him and his sleep apnea goes away.

  • VXS - What was the surgery he had done?
I have moderate sleep apnea, but I've never had the insurance to cover a CPAP after my sleep studies... I just accept that I'll always be exhausted. I should be getting insurance soon, so I was going to look into it again, but I'm curious about the procedure.

Jenn - That's a bummer that your H is stuck with the BP meds, but good that he got put on some, since it sounds like ya'll have already taken other steps and this is what he needed. I hope he figures out somethin' with his sleep apnea!

  • He had a complete overhaul of his sinus area.

He had his uvula removed/reshaped, had his tonsils removed, deviated septum repaired, sinuses cleared.

  • That stinks about the apnea: (  Stinks more that there's not really anything you can do about it as far as diet/exercise/etc.  Are you sure they didn't prescribe more sexxytime???

Ya right! I think would set him off into that deeeeep slumber where no amount of kicking will get him to stop sawing wood.

My dad had all of this done and still has to use a CPAP machine. I know I have sleep apnea. I quit breathing when I'm sleeping. I wake up more tired than ever. I just can't sleep with a CPAP. My dad and aunt hate them.
