Good morning! I'm looking for some opinions on a dress I bought for my baby shower. It's in just under 2 weeks (March 4th) and I didn't really have anything 'nicer' to wear. My work clothes are ok but they just get boring after a while.
My shower isn't going to be anything too fancy. It's just a buffet style lunch (my aunts are all providing the food) at an informal meeting hall. I think maybe 50 people will be there?
Shopping is pretty limited in my city and I went to Thyme Maternity and I didn't really love anything I found there. I found this black dress at Old Navy (30% off...bonus!). It's just a plain cotton dress with a drop waist. Is it too plain? How can I jazz it up? I plan on wearing a sweater but I'm not sure what colour. Are these shoes ok? They are Sketchers and have some sparkles on them. I am so clueless when it comes to clothes, it's actually quite sad =(

Any input would be appreciated.
As an aside, I was looking through my bump pictures and the first ones I took were at 17 weeks and I can't believe how skinny I used to be. I feel so big now and can't believe I'll ever be that small again =(
Re: Shower dress opinions
Sorry beth... I love ya but I'm not a fan of that outfit at all
March is spring in my head so I'd wear something brighter and cheerier. If you're sticking with the dress, don't wear black shoes with it. Do you have any cute colourful flats? In a nice spring-like colour? And maybe a chunky necklace with a bold pendant.
And you WILL be that small again!

I'm going to have to agree with Ringy on that one. Can you order something? I know OldNavy has all their spring and summer stuff out already.
I also have to chime in that you will be that small again, and probably smaller. I got really nervous when my weight was through the roof. 80 pounds gone and still going strong. Our bodies do amazing things.
I agree with PP I think some color would be great. You look super cute.
Just for the record I wish I was as little as you and I am not pregnant haha.
Don't feel bad about the clothes part. I think I dress like grandma 90% of the time. I am not a fashionista. If I could find someone to go shopping with me and pick me stuff out I would be SO happy! unfortantly my bff is no fashionista either.
I don't hate it, but I don't love it. And I agree with ringy on the shoes, colourful flats would be much better.
I think it you pair it with a brightly coloured sweater and a funky necklace the dress could totally work.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?
I think the dress could be fine with the right accessories but the shoes have to go!
I agree with the others that some color would be a good idea(shoes, cardigan or necklace). Also, I know it sounds weird but you don't have to buy maternity. The dress I wore a lot when I was pregnant was a regular dress that I bought at Kohls. It had a empire waist so the belly fit under it. If you decide to not go with that dress, look at other places and not just the maternity section. I bet you can find something that you like and that you are still comfortable in. And as a bonus you can still use it after you have the baby.
If you want to go with maternity try old navy (like snoopy said) they are quick at shipping and I never had a problem with anything I ordered from them as far as maternity goes. I'm still getting the emails and they have cute stuff that just came out.
And yes, you will be that small again. I am down to my pre-pregnancy weight. Now I'm just coming to terms with the fact that things are in a different spot if that makes sense. I'm not even 8 weeks pp yet so I still have to remember that I need to give myself time. Enjoy the bump while it's there! I never thought I would miss mine and I do..
Thanks for all the input, ladies!
I was thinking it might work but would need accesories. I just happened to try it on the other night before putting on pajamas, lol.
It did also come in another colour...I can't remember but it was either pink or blue? Would one of those colours be better? I'm just pretty boring and patterns and colour can scare me sometimes.
re:non-maternity dresses. I did try a few regular stores first and anything that was non-mat but an empire waist actually made me feel pretty dumpy like it didn't show off my bump enough and make me feel cute enough
re: Old Navy online...I didn't see mat stuff on the canadian website. Does the .com website deliver to Canada? Anyone know?
I think they do ship to Canada now! Pink or blue would both be great, whatever suits your complexion better, or whatever colour you like better. Maybe with the pregnant glow, pink would be nice
If that is TOO much colour for you, you could easily tone it down with a white cardigan and still look pretty cheery.
The nice thing about maternity clothes is that you don't get very long to wear them, so it's a good chance to go a little kooky and wear a colour you might not normally wear
You'll look fab no matter what.

One of the colours might be better! Though if the only options are pink or blue it might make people think you're trying to give them a hint about the baby!
Re: maternity stuff, I don't think ON Canada does maternity anymore. Well, the one by me didn't really have much.
Re: non-maternity stuff, do you have a Joe Fresh near you? Some of their jersey dresses are pretty bump friendly. I've got one from pre-PG that I think I'll be wearing this weekend.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?
You ladies are pretty smart!
I can't remember if the other colour was pink or blue. Either way, I think I look pretty good in either colour. My complexion works with pink and then I also have blue eyes. I was worried that one of the 'colours' would look too casual.
I'm going to stop by Old Navy today and see what the other colour was and see if they still have it in my size.
Joe Fresh - that's at Real Canadian Superstore, right? I have one like 5 minutes from my house so I'll check that out this afternoon after my massage (on my way to bulk barn...yum)
There's no such thing when you're pregnant. People are usually smart enough to just realize that you're trying to be as comfortable as possible. I got away with murder at work when I was trying to dress a giant bump all summer long. No one wants to anger a crazy, moody pregnant lady. Just saying. Show off your bump as much as you can.
