I just had words with a neighbor

I'm laying on my couch, catching up on tv shows, about to doze off. Right outside my front door, I hear a kid screaming. And screaming. And then kicks my door. Twice.

So I open the door and just raise my eyebrow. The kid's mom glares at me, snatches up her precious and says "he's only 5!"

I reply that I don't care how old he is, he's obviously too old to act like that. She then tells me that it's sad how some people apparently hate kids. I reply that it's sad how some parents don't know how to discipline their children, which makes her storm off.

DUDE. WTF?

  • I just don't understand how people think that being a kid is an excuse to be a complete assh0le.

    WTF is wrong with people?

I know! It's so freaking irritating. I'm one of those jerks that fully expect kids to behave.

LOL....she's probably on the Bump, complaining about how some evil neighbor viciously attacked her innocent child.

  • Sorry, that is the worst thing about apartment living.   They really should make more complexes that have kid/family sections and on the opposite side have the adults only residents.    I have so many annoying kid stories from apartment living, I swear they caused more of a ruckus than the college students I lived around!

My BIL's kids are like this and Their mom says the same thing. " Oh he's only 4 years old" Like it's O.k. for a 4yo to burp in your face (or in your case kick doors)

I live in an apt building and I keep gates up and doors locked open so they can't be banged on or slamed shut. because I have 20 other neighbors that don't want to hear my kids and I get that.

  • Go Otter!

It's a shame that parents don't understand that "raising" a child does not just mean feeding and clothing them.

I wouldn't doubt it! LOL, go OTTER!!

  • She knew she was in the wrong as soon as she opened the door!

So now she knows that she gotta keep that kid contained when at home and if not, take that kid outside to run crazy. She still has to respect the neighbors! Geesh!

Or tethers to lash them relatively close to the kid friendly section.  If they're off leash, they can still roam into the adult side.

  • Good for you!

    Poor parenting at its finest.

  • Her kid started beating on YOUR door and she immediately jumps to "you hate kids?"  WTF?  I have a right to sit in my own house and not be bothered by YOUR children.

Also, this is why I'm glad I live on the top floor of an apartment building that primarily consists of 1-bedrooms.  I have exactly one neighbor on my floor, and they are a couple with no kids.  Because these are 1-bedrooms, haha.

  • I cringed at the "he's only 5!" comment.

And I really dislike when people, referring to misbehaving children, use the phrase "boys will be boys".

This is the best idea ever.

Otter, I'm glad you said something to them!  You go, girl.  I also think it's hilarious that the mom said, "He's only five" before you even said a word.  She obviously knows he's misbehaving if she's getting defensive.

But you know what's sad? It's like she knew where it was going, which makes me think this has happened before.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I read your post.  It sounded like she knew he was doing something wrong and had to make excuses.  Darn kids and crazy mothers!  *shakes head*

I seriously love Erin's idea and think apartment complexes should implement it. lol.  We wake up about once a week to the neighbor's screaming child.

  • Well good for you for saying something.  I get so sick of parents not having any control over their kids and blaming it on the "kid haters."  Dumbasses.
  • My kids knew better than that at the age of 3.  It is all in how you raise them.  Kids needs to learn manners and proper behavior as soon as they are talking.  It isnt that hard if you just keep at it over time in the early years.  My 7 & 4 year olds know how to say "yes please" "no thank you" "excuse me", etc, etc.  And it isnt like I am a drill seargent either.  I cant stand parents like that!!!
