Should I change the last name on my passport or

should I just book everything in my madien name? we are going to turks and cacios in may and the passport that I have is from when we got married so it has my madien name, I still have 4 years on it so if I dont have to pay $110 for another passport I would like to go that route. did you change your passport over after getting married, if you havent, have you experienced any problems? I am going to use my passport as my form of id when traveling to turks and cacios so everything matches

Re: Should I change the last name on my passport or

  • I changed mine as it was the easiest form of ID to change to get the ball rolling with other name changes since my marriage certificate was another country but i probably would have changed it anyway because I know myself and it would be my luck that I'd book in my married name then i'd be fuuccckked

  • Hi! I don't post much but I do read a lot :)

I wanted to let you know That I just changed my name on my passport (and yes, paid $110) because I am traveling to Canada in April, and my license is changed to my new name so I wanted to make sure they matched when I get to customs and I won't have a problem with that. Just keep that in mind, that if they check more than one piece of documentation, to avoid any problems, you might want to make sure that everything matches.

  • I'm pretty sure that I didn't have to pay $110 to change my name. I just had to fill out a form and send in my original passport with it.

/if it's been over a year since you got your first issued passport the fee is $110. (or you got lucky!)

  • i changed mine after i got married because i didnt want to worry about it and yes it was $110. My maiden name is not on a single thing anymore. I would change it because i wouldnt want to worry about a hassle

  • If you book everything in your airline tickets in your maiden name you shouldn't have a problem.  If you have an extra copy of your marriage license, you can bring that as back up just in case.  I did not change mine until it expired.  I ended up not needing to use it during that time, but I was told that it wasn't a problem.
  • my passport is still in my maiden name & i have used it twice so far with no problems & will be using it again in oct,it sucks we cant go on vac with a family name but i dont want to pay $110 for a new one bc i still have 8 yrs on it.

this is exactly what I was thinking, I am going to be booking my airline tickets and hotel etc under madien name so I can use my passport. thanks for the advice :)
  • Ive used mine once and they just ask to bring a copy of your marriage certificate. But book everything in your married name. Shouldn't be a problem.
  • My passport was the only thing I didnt change, because I knew we wouldnt be traveling after the honeymoon since we were buying a house - however when my husband just recently booked our trip for March - he did it under my married name - so I had to pay to have it changed!!!  If he would have done it under my maiden name I wouldnt have had a problem since my passport had not expired.

Turn around time was great - but I paid to have it expedited, since I was afraid of it not arriving.  I sent it out on a Thursday and by next week Friday I had everything back to me.

If you dont want to pay right now to have it changed just book under your maiden name. The travel agent said we wouldnt have had a problem.

  • I changed it.  We went on our honeymoon a month after the wedding and I didn't think the license in my new name would  have arrived by then, so I booked everything in my maiden name.  It wasn't international (we went to Hawaii and Vegas) and most of the airports looked at a copy of my marriage license and just said "congratulations" and let me through, but the airport in Arizona gave me a huge problem because my last name didn't match on my ticket and driver's license.  They made me change the name on my ticket and I almost missed the flight.  After that, I just got my passport changed because I didn't want any more problems for the future.
