White Burch Builders- anyone have any opinions?

Hi everyone! My husband and I are starting to get serious about finding a new house and were driving around the other day looking at open houses. We found a neighborhood we love and there are some open lots to build on. The builder is white burch, I can't find any reviews online so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them? Also, any advice on having your home built as opposed to buying would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Re: White Burch Builders- anyone have any opinions?

  • I have not heard of them. I have not gone through the building process, however I would recommend the following, based on what I have seen other people gone through.

Know going into it what is standard and what is extra. I know way too people who have spent way more than they plan because they go to look at the model house and fall it love with it, Once  they meet with the builder they discover the majority of the items in the house are the upgrades (carpets, cabinets, etc.) so they end up spending more than they expected. Or they do what my parents did and spend the next 10 years and a lot of money replacing cheap builder quality products.

Now that we are coming 7-10 years off the building boom, I keep hearing horror stories of people in new homes having a ton of issues with their houses, like windows, etc. If this builder has been around for a while, see if there are any their "older" homes for sale and check them out to see how they withstand 10 years of normal wear and tear.

If you or your husband are not up on ways a home should be built, try to find someone that can be your eyes for you. My dad was at the job site daily for their condo and also for my two sisters' homes. He caught mistakes before it was too late to fix. Plus, with the guys knowing my dad was going to be around, I think they were a little more careful.

I think building home can be a good way to get what you want, you just have to be on top of things.

    Good luck!

  • I too haven't heard of them. I didn't see listed on the Better Business Bureau for our area nor did I find them listed as a member of H&BA of GR, the people that put on the Parade of Homes. If I was in the planning stages I might call a few different builders and see what something like the house you like would be.
