My first half is on March 31. I'm running 21/22 miles a week right now. Last week was a cut back week. This week I have a long run of 10 miles scheduled. I tacked a few extra weeks onto the training cycle because I knew I would have one or two weeks where a long run would be impossible.
The weekend before the half is a 10k in town that I'm running- not racing. It's a HUGE race so it's hard to really "race" it anyway. So I was planning to do my last "long run" of 12 miles the weekend BEFORE that, which would be two weeks prior to the half. I still have five long runs before the half, including the 10K. I plan to do a 10, 11, 12, the 10K, and maybe do two weeks of 11 or something. Not sure.
I am going to have a really hard time- if not impossible time- getting a long run of 12 in the weekend before the 10K. It's very hard to explain, but trust me that I'm not making excuses
So- what would you do? Should I try to turn the 10K into the 12 miles (running before or after?) Or figure out a way to get that 12 miles in the two weeks before the half? Am I really over thinking this?
