TV ranting (very long)

The shows I watch are supposed to entertain me and yet lately, I have been nitpicking in my mind about silly thinks that irk me while watching them.    Maybe I need to step away and watch less of it, or lighten up and hope that the general audience isn't accepting such nonsense as "normal" since it is on TV, of course.

My latest examples of annoyances (followed by personal rants):

**flame me for this if you want, I like to watch it for Sue Sylvester and the Beast**   On Glee, there was an episode where some of the teen characters are at a restaurant and Kurt wants the waiters attention, so he snaps multiple times in the air while looking for them.   Not just once, but 2 or 3 times he does this!     As a former waiter, I can't tell you how demeaning and downright insulting it is to be snapped at, much less by a teenager and not just some snobby adult...   surely today's teens don't think that is an acceptable way to get your waiters attention!!

On "Up All Night", the most recent episode had them flying across the country for a wedding, and I realize their intent at humor was a bit over the top, but for real... they changed their baby's diaper using one of the security bins WHILE pushing through the security line.  Then they leave the baby in the arms of the flight attendant while they sneak in to the bathroom together.   Yeah, sure... i dare any parents out there to try this stuff IRL, I doubt it will get very many laughs!

And don't get me started on The Biggest Loser last night.   That drama fest was silly and unnecessary and I fricken hate when contestants blatantly squander their spots on that show on purpose (intentionally get kicked off) when there are millions of folks out there who would trade places with them any second to soak up the knowledge those trainers have.    Yet they let petty drama and personal grudges take over them and piss off all those who didn't even have a chance at their spot.

Okay, I guess that's enough for now.   Anyone else feel me on these things?  Or am I just really over-reacting and need to stop over analyzing things?    Maybe it's a little of both, but it's annoying when shows start leaving you unsatisfied and irked rather than entertained and content.   Tongue Tied

Re: TV ranting (very long)

  • That's a major part of why I don't watch primetime TV. The poor parenting skills and disrespect for spouses irk me. The only sitcom that I sometimes watch is How I Met Your Mother and Dharma and Greg reruns.

This pissed me off to no end last night.  And to make themselves look like even bigger crybabies, look at this:

  • I don't watch any of those shows with the exception of sometimes catching a glimpse of Biggest Loser, mainly just to see the weigh-ins.

I was very annoyed by it last night. I do understand living with strangers can be stressful and their situation is stressful by itself but throwing a weigh-in? WTH. Yes, it is a game, but your ultimate goal should be losing weight. I enjoy watching the weigh-ins and seeing people cry tears of joy because of their accomplishments. It was pathetic to watch an entire team of people lose less than 20lbs together.

  • Oh and the teens snapping for the waiter would piss me off too.

oh, lord...  I just may have to give up on this show at this point.   I was already getting over all the trainer switchouts and format changeups, but if the contestants are trying to push their weight around and being ungrateful, then I just don't care anymore.      They have always had opportunities to bring past contestants back... and I was truly HAPPY for Ali, the first female winner, because she had that chance and fought for it till the end.   I don't know what their gripes could be, just shut your mouth, collect your checks, and don't bite the hands that feed you, FFS!

    ugh, maddening!

  • We actually fast forwarded through most of the BL drama last night.  I know it is a game, but they are there for one reason - to lose weight, so drop the game playing and drama!
  • I have had students snap at me to get my attention...needless to say, they were ignored.

  • This whole season of BL with all the drama is so ridiculous. Enough already! They kept saying last night how toxic it was in the house, but the people that said it are the same people causing all of the problems, so stop whining!

  • I was watching TV with my sister recently, and after a bunch of sarcastic comments and eye rolls from me, she finally said:  "I don't think you should watch TV anymore!"  LOL

I don't watch any of the shows you mentioned, but I support your outrage!  :)

Good!    That is how you should react!

It's amazing how such a small gesture can come across as demeaning for some of us.   I just want to wring the necks of folks who snap for attention in situations like that, as if the other person is their personal slave!

I watched that, and most of the episode really irritated me. There were a lot of good examples of inappropriate behavior that they wanted people to just overlook because, oh, they have a baby! When they guy gave his little speech on the plane, I wanted to throw stuff at him...until he got to the part about buying drinks for everyone. Then I was sorta with him.

I am so glad you agree!    There was that other scene where they wait until the last minute to buy tickets and then complain the seats aren't together, to the point she demands a "courtesy clickity-clack" as if the airline checker could do anything about it.   How self righteous did that across!?

I think the song at the end about "backing it up" was what saved it for me, only I wish I knew what the bleeped words were.
