Re: 2012 H&F Challenge Check-in: February
1. I don't even remember.
2. Last week was an off week between stage 1 and 2 in NROLFW. I was also travelling for work so I only ran twice, including the weekend.
3. big Aw: I finally got to sub 30 minutes for a 5k. This may sound really slow to some people, but it's a big deal to me.
4. I'm not really sure. I lifted the last two days in a row (yesterday was lots of random stuff with Kevin and not part of my plan). Today is a rest day. I'm going to do a long run and lift tomorrow and Thursday, but I'm not sure which it's which day.
5. I'd say running a half marathon is my biggest accomplishment. I'll do number 6 in a couple weeks and I still don't believe I get out there and run 13.1 miles. I remember telling someone I couldn't understand how anyone ran because they wanted to. I'm pretty impressed with my speed gains lately though.
1. What are your February goals?
Eat better, keep running, keep strength training, run a couple races.
2. How did you do last week? Did you stick to your plan?
Nope. I ran a mile and that's about it. And I completely slacked when it came to sticking to my meal plan.
3. AWs and Struggles?
Motivation. I'm lacking in that department. I went to the podiatrist this morning! I have a mild bunion and he thinks the pain could also be caused by an inflamed nerve or something. I got a steroid injection and a steroid pack to take. I have a follow up appointment in a couple weeks.
4. Plan for this week?
M: I ran 5 miles! It felt good to finally get a good run in. T: Back/Biceps. W: Legs/Abs. Th: chest/triceps/shoulders. F: Run 2-3 miles (I'm not supposed to run for 3 days so this will be just a test run to see how my foot is doing.) Sa: Maybe try to find a core strengthening workout to do. Su: If my foot's doing okay, maybe a 5-6 mile run.
5. What has been your biggest H&F achievement ever (could be something you accomplished in the past or something current, like lose a lot of weight, accomplish something you never thought you would have, etc.)?
Running. I never in a million years would have imagined myself running. I've always felt like I run funny (thanks to my brother for making fun of how I run when we were little haha) and because I always thought my asthma would prevent me to run. And because nobody (including myself) thought I could.
And hiking 14ers in Colorado feels like a pretty big achievement to me. I've never been an active person or an outdoors person until a few years ago. If someone would've told me 5 years ago that I would go on 8 hour hikes and hike to the top of mountains I would've thought they were crazy. It's such an awesome feeling to finally make it to the top and see how far you've come from the beginning of the trail.

Way to go Wendy! I'm sure that was an awesome feeling!! Can't wait until I'm finally under 30.
I didn't realize you had done so many halfs! Do you think you'll ever try for a full?
ETA: And I didn't mean that last part to sound like half marathons aren't impressive and you should go for a full. Half marathons are a huge accomplishment! Some people I talk to just act like they're not impressed at all unless you run a full marathon. I was just curious if you ever plan on doing a full sometime in the future.

I don't anticipate a full any time in the next 5 or so years at least. I don't see time in my schedule to train for a full (who has 4 + hrs to run every weekend?) and I'd like to get married, go back to school, build a house, and have another baby in that timeframe (holy crao that's a lot of big stuff!). Maybe it will be something that's possible and desirable once Kevin is on a M-F day shift, but for now half marathons are still hard and challenging, so I don't have a huge desire to work toward a full. I don't feel like I've reached my potential with a half yet, by any means.
I found a zumba partner that is going to go with me every week and we'll keep each other accountable. I'd like to lose 5-10 before we start TTC.
I'm struggling with eating. I eat everything in sight and I have convinced myself that I have to have dessert after dinner every night. Failure!
I grocery shopped and plan to make semi-healthy meals for the week. I'm just glad every day doesn't involve food out somewhere!
1. What are your February goals? keep working on NROLFW, swim at least once a week
2. How did you do last week? Did you stick to your plan? yes. I even hit my bonus workout goal.
3. AWs and Struggles? Struggles: My left arm still has a dull ache sometimes...that can't be good. AW: I can do a full chinup, take a minute break, then do a second one!
4. Plan for this week? lifted yesterday, lift Thurs and Sun, swim on Fri or Sat, exercise class on Sat
5. What has been your biggest H&F achievement ever (could be something you accomplished in the past or something current, like lose a lot of weight, accomplish something you never thought you would have, etc.)? Becoming active, so exercise became a part of my daily routine. Before this summer, I never exercised on a regular basis, and when I did it usually wasn't very strenuous. Now I workout at least 3 days a week, sometimes up to 5, and my whole body and mind feel better for it. Now I go to the gym first before I collapse into a lazy blob on the couch for the rest of the night. Oh yeah, and I can do a chinup! It took me months to build up the strength do do it, and I'm so proud of that.
That's AWESOME! Losing that weight takes major dedication. Way to go on approaching it as a lifestyle change.
