My doctor suggested I take fish oil pills daily. I went to Costco last night and just didn't know which one to get:
Kirkland brand-Enteric coated ($13.99/180 softgels)
Nature Made brand ($13.99/375 softgels)
It's interesting that the actual brand name one is cheaper than Kirkland brand, but I'm wondering how one is better than the other?
Re: LIP: Fish oil- Which one should I be getting?
I take fish oil and use either one of these two -
New Chapter WholeMega ( I get this at whole foods. They are also on facebook or at newchapter.com)
Solgar Full Spectrum Omega (I get this at Sprouts)
I look for 3 things in fish oil: 1) Omega3 EPA, 2) Omega 3 DHA, and 3) Astaxanthin (It occurs naturally in certain algae and causes the pink or red color in salmon, trout, lobster, shrimp, and other seafood)
IMO, when it comes to health, I do not believe that the cheapest price is the best deal. DH just had blood work done and his choleterol is 158, lower than mine, and his bp was <120/80.
I take this one from Costco:

I've been taking it for almost 3 years now. I never get "fish burps".
When I started taking them I read that the Kirkland brand supplements were actually very good quality compared to many brand names. Like PP, I look for DHA content and mg per pill. I take two fish oil pills a day, so I get about 2g total.
I have also read to consider the source of the oil. The smaller the fish the better because they are lower on the food chain. I have read that Krill is a great source of fish oil, but they are a little more spendy.

I've read in magazines that Nordic Naturals and Solgar are two of the best. However, I sat in on a lecture given by the sports dietition for the Atlanta Falcons. She said she recommends the Kirkland brand to her clients.
