Help us name our baby! - DH is having commitment problems

I have concluded that DH has a commitment phobia. We have named this baby a couple of times and he comes back a couple days later unsure of the choice we made. The hardest thing that we are running into is that we like a lot of one syllable names that he feels are too plain with our one syllable last name. We aren't sharing with people IRL but I think having some opinions might help him feel more secure with our choices. I'm putting down our top 4 boy & girl names (in no particular order) so comment/suggest away!

Boys

Leighton

Nolan

Layne

Lyndon

Girls

Carolyn

Laurel

Delaney

Lauren

  • Of those:

    Nolan

Lane w/o the y would be ok

    Carolyn

    Lauren

  • My DH has a one syllable first and last name. I don't think it sounds weird.

Of those names, I like Carolyn and Lauren. The boy's name are NMS.

Uh, Kimberly, you best be saying you like the name Nolan!!!!   ;)

So yeah, I'm partial to Nolan. :)   We have the plainest last name!  (white)   Nolan has a family middle name so it works well, too, with the last name.

I love the name Laurel.   Love it.  I think it would sound really pretty with your last name.

It just seems like Nolan is getting to be so popular! Maybe it's only a popular name on the bump?

Of those four boy's names, I do like Nolan the best. :)

  • I have a friend/former student who just named her daughter Leighton... I like Nolan, I like Lane with no Y and Lyndon is NMS

I like Delaney, Laurel and Lauren (in that order), Carolyn is also NMS

I'll make sure to pass that on to DH, I was fine with it as well. I figured Nolan would be fairly well received on this board.

  • I like Laurel and Nolan. When I look at "Lyndon" I keep wanting to pronounce it as London.
  • I considered Lyndon because it's where DH went to college... otherwise, it probably wouldn't be my thing.

I like Laurel & Nolan... naming a kid is really tough! I had a hard time pairing names up to our last name too.

  • I like Nolan and Lauren best - good luck coming to an agreement :)

  • I LOVE the name Laurel; for the girls' names you listed, the only one I thought did not work well was Delaney.

None of the boys names really caught my fancy with your last name, although I do like Nolan. Of course, I think Noah works even better with your last name-- I think it's because Nolan, Leighton, etc. all have "N"s at the end and it sounds so much like your last name, then...

But what the heck do I know? So far, I've only had to name my animals!

  • Warning: I have been known to be very opinionated about baby names, to the point of harsh, so keep that in mind and know that it doesn't REALLY matter what I think because your child isn't MY child and at the end of the day, I dont' really care. :-)

I think Nolan is the only boy name I really like of your choice, and I think Daniele makes a good point about the ending in N thing with Nolan and your last name.  Layne makes me think of that party-pooper, foppish British guy from Mad Men, Leighton seems like a last name, and Lyndon is just a little strange and reminds me of Lyndon Johnson, who I have the impression was only a mediocre president.

For the girl names, I really like Laurel (though I do think Laurel and Hardy in addition to the plant), and Lauren is nice. Carolyn is nice, but it and Caroline are both pretty popular now- or so I get the impression. Delaney is a last name to me and too masculine.

It is funny to hear someone say it is too masculine. I really tried for awhile to convince DH that it would make a great boys name (with the nickname Del or Lane)  because I had read it in a book and loved it. Most people use it as a girls name and thus it was a losing battle from the start.

  • Nolan works, because we have a Nolan :) Leighton and Layne are last names to my and when I look at Lyndon, my brain says Landon (and we had/have a Landon here too, just not sure where his mommy has been!)

Carolyn reminds me of Caroline. Laurel and Lauren are NMS and too plain.  I love Delaney with your last name though!

This is why we considered Lyndon, we like Landon but the popularity of it bothered me.
