How long did it take you to concieve with PCOS?
I posted this on The Bump also...
How long did it take you to concieve with PCOS?
I was told that I have PCOS about 1 year ago but I smoked cigarettes at the time I was diagnosed (nicotine causes the same hormone problems as PCOS) and I have not been tested since I have quit smoking...If it takes a long time then I wonder if me and Hubby should start trying/ NOT trying NOT to get pregnant (lol)...IDK any thoughts?
Re: How long did it take you to concieve with PCOS?
I don't have PCOS ... however -
If you've been TTC for a year, and have been charting or tracking your ovulation date, I would speak to your OB to begin seeing a RE. If you're not charting or tracking your ovulation date, the OB will tell you to start doing that by taking your temperature in the mornings (you can sign up at fertilityfriend.com and there are tutorials and it's REALLY easy.)
GL!
I have been trying 7 months with PCOS and so far no luck but we also have MFI issues.

I have PCOS. It took 9 months of Metformin for me to get PG with DS#1... it was the first cycle, but it took 9 months for me to ovulate!
My second, I had seen my endocrinologist and told her we were ready again, I had gotten all the meds and wanted to wait to take them til after our vacation in case of side effects... and I had lost about 30 pounds and was at my skinniest... we got PG without knowing when it happened.
We have not been trying...we just recently got married...I was just wondering if it'd be worth letting things happen on there own and not use any protection because it may take awhile for me to conceive....and it sounds like it will
Thank you for all the answers
Similar to this. We have been trying for over a year, although I have only been well regulated and ovulating for the last 3-4 months. We may have MFI issues as well, DH gets 2nd SA this month.
After 2 years of IF workups/treatments and 2 IUIs, we have closed the door on fertility treatments.
We are very excited to be pursuing international adoption from China!
6000 miles and a day
It really depends.
We weren't using any protection for over a year. But, oftentimes with PCOS, you need a medication to help you ovulate. Once I started taking that medicine (Metformin and Clomid), I got pregnant on cycle 2 with DS #1 and on cycle 3 with DS #2. So, 2 months and 3 months. BUT, the first time around, I was tested, then given progesterone to kick start my cycle, then tested again, then given 3 months to see if that would do it, then tested, etc. So, it took awhile (and some experiements) before I was given Metformin and Clomid.
I would try when you're ready, not based on an assumption it won't happen for a while.
I was diagnosed as well and the month I got off birth control is the month I concieved. My sister on the other hand had a harder time and it took her 11 years (along with other problems). Please don't let that discourage you though. I think it all depends on the woman and the severity of it. My doctor said right away that she didn't think I would have problems. Has your doctor talked to you about it and having kids yet?
I should also tell you I was on BC because I was diagnosed with it early on. My doc says that helps regualte everything. Now my sister was diagnosed when they started checking for things after no luck with trying.
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was in college. I've been taking 1000 mg of metaformin twice a day since June 2000. I had been on Yasmin since the fall of 2002. I stopped taking the pill in mid-August 2009. I'm over thirty, so six cycles later my OB/GYN did a day 13 hormone test. My hormones were on the low side. She started me on Clomid. Two cycles later, we were pregnant. I think being on the metaformin for so long prior to taking Clomid helped. Loosing weight also helps with fertility. My cousin has PCOS. After loosing over 100 lbs, her body reset and she began to ovulate. She was able to get pregnant twice without any meds. FYI: You will have a higher risk for gestational diabetes since you have PCOS. But, you can control it by monitoring your blood sugar and eating habits.
Good luck! No matter what you deceide to do the whole process can be an emotional roller coaster.
This is not at all accurate. Please do a little reading/research on how PCOS works and what it does. If you are not ovulating due to PCOS or for any other reason, you will not see a BBT drop and subsequent BBT spike. You may see a number of BBT dips, but then BBT's return to your cover line and don't spike and stay elevated like they will if you ovulate. If you are not ovulating an egg is NOT released at all.
I have mild PCOS. I do ovulate on my own, however my cycles are long and generally irregular. It took us 6-7 months and 4 cycles to get pregnant the first time. And then I had an early miscarriageat 6wks. After the miscarriage I started metformin and did 3 cycles with just that. Then two cycles on clomid at the lowest dosage just to see if we could make ovulation earlier, and more regular and it did do those things, but I didn't get pregnant.
We took a cycle off to wait to see a fertility specialist and we got lucky on our own. Personally, I think the clomid cycles helped reset my system a bit. I had also lost about 15lbs during the previous 6 months and that most likely helped too.
Also, just FYI but charting works perfectly if you know what you are doing. My midwife was very impressed with how "right on" my dates are for this pregnancey based on the date I told her I ovulated and that she confirmed through an early ultrasound.
So, it took us a total of 15 months to get and stay pregnant.
I'm not trying to pretend I know everything about the way PCOS...that's why I was asking.
Thanks for the answer though...It sounds like I am ovulating then according to my BBT chartings...They look like they should...maybe I wont start using nothing then...lol! I may get preggers sooner than I thought...hopefully!!
I guess we'll see then!!
