Qantas airlines?

Has anyone flown Qantas?  What would you compare it to Continental, Delta or something more like Swiss Air, Lufthansa?  It's substantially cheaper to fly it to Australia this summer but I have no experience with it.  Typically when I fly to Europe I prefer the European airlines because I feel they are better quality so I wanted to see what it's more like-a US airline or European airline.  TIA

Re: Qantas airlines?

  • I would say it's like the AA of Australia, but it's still better than AA.  I found the plane itself to be okay, but when we traveled from DFW--LAX--Sydney a few years ago, they didn't ticket us the whole way for some reason and we had a horrible time in LAX getting the long haul tickets at the gate.  Return trip was okay.
  • I have been very impressed with Qantas compared to AA and Continental. The plane is more comfortable, the service was great, and the entertainment was far superior to any American airline I've flown. Air New Zealand and Air Tahiti Nui are the only ones I can think of better than Qantas, in my experience.
  • I loved flying Qantas. :)  Very clean, good service, entertainment, and food.
  • It's much nicer than any of the US legacy airlines.

I agree with this.  I don't have experience with the European airlines to compare it with, but I was more comfortable on the 15-hour flight to Oz on Qantas than many 5-hour domestic flights.  I think the drinks and frequent meals/snacks helped break up the flight. :-)

I'm not flying on them until September, but so far, their customer service has been amazing.

I have a friend that flies them often and she absolutely loves them. Her rec was the reason I booked with them instead of Virgin.

I'm guessing that means your extra charge either dropped off or they took care of it with no issues.  In either case, glad it worked out for you!

  • most definitely better than a US airline. if it were between a US airline and qantas, i'd still pay a little more to fly qantas.

  • We had a wonderful experience with them in August.  Seven flights, no lost bags, no delays, friendly crew, etc... The long flights had good entertainment options and food. Only issue I had was with Qantas vacations not the airline itself.
  • I had to laugh at comparing it with any US carrier...I don't know if you have flown AirNZ but I would say the 2 are most similar. I prefer Qantas to Swiss Air and Cathay , but would fly Singapore handsdown any day. In my experience Qantas is a more expesnive option.
