Intro

Hi, my home board is military nesties. My STBXH is currently active duty Air Force. I've been married for almost 3 year. I'm getting out of an emotional abusive relationship and just before I left it turned physical. He threatened to hurt  me and kill hurt my dogs multiple times over the past 8/9 months and he finally followed through on putting his hands on me. I got out that night.

Luckily, I have a great support system and the military is aware of the situation and can help me get the rest of my stuff out of the house. He had a no contact order for the first two weeks and that was lifted today. He texted me this morning that he is filing for divorce this week. Thank goodness. It should be a no fault since we have no kids and are not homeowners.

Anyway, that's the short version. I just thought I'd test the waters over here if you'll have me.

ETA: I'm currently in counseling.

  • Hi and welcome.  I'm sorry you've found yourself here.  It sounds like you're doing great though.  Keep up the strength and counseling.

  • I'm glad to hear your in counseling.  It will always be the first thing I recommend to anyone going through a divorce- it has helped me SO much.

    Stay strong, hon.

The day I left was just my beginning.
  • The only time I cry is in counseling. Maybe it's the only time I let my guard down. I'm sure my counselor thinks I just sit around and cry all day. LOL.

Sounds like you've clearly made the right decision to leave and I'm glad the military is being supportive. Stay strong and make sure you surround yourself with a great support system. Certainly hang out here...it's a great supportive place with alot of different stories/advice.

As for counseling, I did the same. I wouldn't cry for days/weeks...then I'd go into her office, sit on the couch and let the waterworks start. That's normal and it's good to cry and just get it out. Good that you are in counseling!

I hear you, I have a new therapist (it's been like a year since I saw one) and Monday at my second appt I cried in her office for the first time in like 9 months.  It was like the floodgates opened -  I then cried that night and yesterday in my office (behind closed doors).  Crying is better than being numb though I think

I think I remember you! I refuse to leave the MN board! LOL. I think STBXH has the mindset that women are less than and I think it drives him nuts that his 1st shirt is now a woman and she's all up in his business. It makes me slightly giddy on the inside.

I should get divorced more often. I have lost like 6 pounds in two weeks. It's the "someone else is eventually going to see me naked" diet.

Haha! I remember YOU! I was the one who got flamed for asking questions about sending my BF a package for his RCOT. You guys thought I was calling his CO (which I wasn't btw, lol) and I got all pissy with you MN. Anyway, I can put a grudge aside to help out a SO nestie Stick out tongue

Yeah, I don't do well with the "woman is less than man" mindset. Karma is a raging biatch that his 1st shirt is a woman! Divorce sucks but the diet can be good!
