Agent for a forclosure?

The more I look in my area, the more I'm noticing really nice foreclosures going up.  We're not in a position yet to swoop in and buy one, but it's becoming more of a possibility in my mind.

Has anyone here bought a foreclosure?  Did you use a real estate agent and would you recommend it?  I'm terrified of buying something to find out that I owe liens or something.

Re: Agent for a forclosure?

  • Are any of them Homepath or Homesteps foreclosures? Those seem a bit more legit to me. I would definitely suggest getting a real estate agent since those can be very complicated purchases and there is a lot of paperwork that goes into putting in an offer.
  • Absolutely use a real estate agent. I'm not just saying it because I am one. This will be one of the biggest purchases in one's life. Why people would you go into a transaction like that with no representation (and almost always at no cost to them) is crazy to me.

For what it's worth. I just represented buyers in a foreclosure transaction that closed and it was way more complicated/more hoops to jump through than a normal sale.

Thanks, I guess I need to brush up on exactly what a real estate agent can do for me.  The majority of my experiences with them was getting driven around by one while my parents tried to find a house.  I have no idea how much fighting they will or won't take on for a buyer.
