lalala I'm going to regret this lalala
I don't feel like spending the next 18 weeks training for a half, especially since the half is in Alaska and will involve me traveling with the girls by myself, etc, not prime PRing conditions.
So I've decided to spend the next ten weeks training for a 10K. First, 10Ks are freaking hard. Second, it's in May here in Houston, Early May, but still, it's going to be freaking warm. Third, 10Ks are freaking hard.
Why did this sound like a good idea at 10 p.m. last night when I registered for the race? LOL!

2012 Races:
1/28 - Planet Adventure night trail 1/4-marathon - 1:25:47
3/24 - Sam Costa half marathon - 2:02:47
4/14 - Hoosier 10 miler - 1:25:21 (8:32) PR!
7/8 - XTERRA Freedom Fest Hawaii 10K
9/1 - Indianapolis Women's Half Marathon
10/20 - Indianapolis Marathon Relay
11/4 - Monumental Marathon (full marathon #2)
11/22 - Drumstick Dash 4.5mi
Was there wine involved? I would only register for a 10K after a cuple of glasses. I hate 10Ks.

2010 Race PRs:
5K - 24:57 10M - 1:28:20 13.1M - 1:57:29 26.2M - 4:28:29
10ks are hard, I think I've ran 5 of them and I still haven't really mastered my pace for them, I always, always go out too fast. They're my least fave distance.
If there was wine involved, I totally understand
::whispers::
there was no wine involved. this was a totally sober decision.
which makes it even worse somehow

I've only done a couple 10K's and I actually liked them! Why the 10K hate?
May probably won't be too bad, I've done a half marathon in May, as long as it starts early enough it doesn't get super warm. Although with this winter we've had, who knows!
Good luck, I bet you'll do awesome!

Who knows--maybe the 10K will be "your" race?! Have you done any before? I kind of dig them. It's JUST the right amount of running for me--it's long enough that it's still a challenge, but short enough where I can push myself to set a faster pace than I would for a 13.1.
Keep us updated! (FWIW, I probably would have bailed on the 1/2 too).
Yes,I'm smiling...I'm a marathoner!

They are a difficult distance for me. I have a hard time pacing myself for 10K. It is too far to go really fast (for me) and too short to go slow. My 10K PR is actually part of a 10 miler.
Kat,
Which 10K did you sign up for? The Pearland 10K in the beginning of May? I did that one last year (my first 10K). The course is flat and through neighborhoods. It wasnt too hot (if I remember correctly). I might do it again this year. GL!
blech. I don't like 10ks either. I ran 3 this season, and that was plenty.
Good Luck!!
Which one is it? I'll do it (meaning you will be minutes ahead of me) with you. I need a race in May anyways.
I'm also possibly open to running "just because".
Me too.
It has to be the Lonestar Stampede on May 5 or the Pearland run on May 12. I have done the pearland one last year, its small which is good.
It is Pearland. Josh is doing the Lone Star so we're alternating races
5Ks suck because they're so fast, so it's like nothing but sucky, but they're over with quickly.
Halves (halfs?) give you time to settle in a groove and just be consistent, you're not pushing the pace, you've just got to cover the distance.
10Ks are the worst of both, haha! The speed of a 5K but with the endurance of a half.
And I don't hate them, they're just really hard for me. Which is probably a sign I need to do them more.

Oh thank goodness! I was getting nervous-I'm doing two 10ks in May....
