Would you buy a house...

that has no upper cabinets in the kitchen???  And there is no way to add them because of the layout/windows.

Re: Would you buy a house...

  • If there was plenty of storage elsewhere it wouldn't be a total dealbreaker, but it would have to be an awfully big kitchen to make that possible...

  • How much other storage is available for dishes, glasses, etc.?  It certainly wouldn't be my first choice, but without seeing the space and the rest of the house, I can't say it would be a dealbreaker.

  • There is actually decent storage.  The bottom cabinets are not typical 2-door cabinets.  They are deep pull out cabinets.  So storing, plates, glasses, pots, etc are no issue.  There is a huge walk-in pantry.  The thing that bothers me the most is that there is nowhere to put a microwave besides the counter.

  • Also, we love the rest of the house!  But I'm a big kitchen person.

  • If there was enough storage in general (even if some of it was not super convenient), I would be fine with it. There is always some kitchen stuff that you only use 1-2x a year so I would be fine with storing some stuff a bit further away.

Personally, I really love the layout as you described. No heavy cabinets up high and lots of windows - Wow!!! Love it!

Life is a roller coaster, enjoy it!

  • Only if the kitchen was huge and had plenty of lower cabinets. We're kitchen people and have a ridiculous amount of cookware.
  • I've seen a lot of kitchens like this lately. I guess it makes things more "open" and airy up top, but I would probably really miss the storage. I might keep glassware and even everyday china in a china cabinet in the dining room.

Since you said there's enough storage space, I'm guessing there's enough counter space for a microwave. If you love the house otherwise, and you think you can live with the kitchen, go for it.

  • Not a deal breaker for me.  Depends on what pantry & other lower cabinets are available.
