Is anyone giving up (or adding or changing) anything for lent? Maybe we can help keep each other accountable.
I'm giving up refined sugar this year. I've never given up anything that is as big a part of my life, so I definitely think that it'll be a challenge. I think it'll be a good experience, though.
Re: Lent
I hadn't fully decided what to give up... but then a friend posted this "40 bag challenge" idea on facebook. Read about it here: 40 day challenge
I had a jump start on this... I finally sorted through a ton of stuff that I never touched after we moved over the weekend, in anticipation of a St. Vincent DePaul Society pick-up. I gave away 5 bags of old clothes, a bunch of shoes that I seldom wear, random household items, anything we had double or even triple of. One awesome thing about the area we live is that we get flyers from all sorts of foundations that will come to your house (we have one more coming each of the next three weeks!) & take away your stuff!
So- I am doing the 40 day challenge to both declutter & also donate items to people who would definitely be able to use our currently unused stuff.
I know refined sugar isn't a big deal, but as for fasting and meat, you are excused from lenten obligations for health reasons (pregnancy). I was in first tri during lent last year and there is NO WAY I would have been able to fast and not pass out. Also, meat was one of the few foods that didn't make me nauseous. So just an FYI
I don't "give up" things so much as try to improve myself. This year I am working on more patience, doing random acts of kindness and less complaining.
