night snacking help

I usually drink hot tea to keep from snacking on bad things at night.

Lately, though, I want cheese and tea is not cutting it. I know cheese is a fine thing to have but I have to think I'll make more progress with weight loss if I skip it.  I do myfitnesspal and I do have some calories left for the day, but that's because I ran today.

I did brush my teeth already and I still want chunks of cheese.  Or chocolate.  Chocolate would do.  Or cheese and chocolate...

Re: night snacking help

  • Nevermind, I found string cheese and I think that'll do me!
  • Sounds like you found the answer!

You may still be hungry. If you drink a big glass of water or have some tea and are still craving something, your body probably needs the calories.  I usually cave in.

  • When I'm craving something and I know that I'm not legitimately hungry, I've taken to chewing Extra's Dessert Delights.  The apple pie flavor really does taste like apple pie!  The others are decent too, but apple pie is my fav.  Drinking a glass of water helps sometimes too....or both.

    That's true.

  • I usually plan for an evening snack of some sort since I know I'll crave it and I hate going to bed hungry.  One of my favorite is a sliced banana with some PB and a few mini chocolate chips sprinkled on top.  It's enough to fill me up but not so much that I'm stuffed and uncomfortable.  A string cheese and a piece of dark chocolate would also be really good.
  • Do you keep sugar and grains in your diet? If so, try eliminating them 100% for a week and see at the end of the week if you still want to snack. I cannot believe how much weight I have lost getting of the sugar and grains.

  • I ended up having 2 cheese sticks and a handful of blueberries. Oh well.  Still didn't go over on calories.

I do have sugar and grains in my diet.  I limit both, but I think right now I'd find it hard to follow a strict diet of leaving out the grain food group with 3 kids in the house.  We eat as a family when we can and I know I'm a role model.

  • I like the fun size candy bars. I am usually satisfied with one... Sometimes 2 (kind of too filling) but a serving is 3! So I'm really only eating a 1/3 of the serving size calories and fat. I also like cubed cheese or string cheese. If you are really craving something, go ahead and have it in moderation. I find if I try to ignore what I'm really craving I over eat in other areas.

With the fun size candy bars and cubed cheese I feel like I'm getting more even if I'm eating less than what I would if I had a full size serving
