Another nail polish post

How often do you paint your nails?

What is the best nail polish remover?

How do you make your nails last?

I would like to change my color more often but it is a pain to take the polish off. It seems like I use half a bottle to remove just one hand! Plus no matter how long I wait to do something, I always manage to chip it the same day I paint them. I use a base, then polish, then top coat. Help!!!

Re: Another nail polish post

  • I paint mine once a week or so.

I usually just buy the store brand remover, wherever store I may be at. 100 percent acetone works best for natural nails. Saturate the cotton ball and then hold it on the nail for about 15 seconds, then wipe down. I find holding it on the nail helps to get it all off quickly.

I find that some brands of polish stick better without base coat. Maybe try not using it? Just don't skip it on dark colors so you don't stain your nails. If the problem is just that you're not waiting long enough for it to dry, you might try a quick drying top coat, like Seche Vite, or Essie's quick drying drops.

    Ditto.

As far as base/ top coats, you have to try some to figure out what works for you.  For me, OPI base coat and Seche Vite top coat are best.  My sister swears by Essie base coat and quick dry top coat.

If you've tried those, you may want to try lesser known brands- base coat: Orly Bonder and CND Stickey, top coat: Seche Vite, Poshe, Orly Quick Dry.

  • I rarely paint my own nails -- snob, I know -- I just suck at it.  I try to get my nails done every 2-3 weeks, but sometimes that's not doable.  It's at that point I wipe the nails clean and will cut them down, start from scratch, and most likely paint them myself.

I just buy the regular store brand, but I prefer acetone-based vs non-acetone.  Sometimes I'll buy 100% acetone if I just want the crap off.  And the 100% acetone has been ideal for the Muppet polishes with the sparkles.

I can't, that's why I'll get shellacs if I want them to stay nice longer than a weekend.  I'm so hard on my nails its not even funny...
