Anyone around?

I'm still feeling hungover from yesterday so I'm laying low with some room service. Anything exciting?

Re: Anyone around?

  • Nothing exciting here.  I'm just lounging around.  I am using today's long run to justify eating chips (and half of a giant reese's egg) and be lazy, despite also having popeye's for lunch.  I'm pretty certain that I did NOT burn that many extra calories, but oh well.
  • I'm working. Gonna watch Top Chef later. I might have some wine when I'm done working. I drank so much (SO MUCH) on Sunday that I'm not sure if the idea turns my stomach or not though.

  • I woke up with a headache today after drinking all of TWO BEERS yesterday.  Two. Over three hours.  I'm a loser.

    Now I'm craving popeye's and a reese's egg. crap.

  • I had six drinks on Sunday (over the course of five or six hours) and I was just hammered. Like, talking to strangers at the bar and giving them advice about their love lives hammered. I *never* do that sort of thing. I didn't feel right until Monday evening. In college six drinks was nothing. I'm old!

Ever since having B I have zero tolerance. I get a headache after 2 glasses of wine.

How are you doing lady?  I haven't seen you around here lately.

  • I am doing really good! Work is insane so I don't get much time to come on here anymore. But I am trying to make more of an effort to check in at night.

  • Oh and how is the new job (not that it is new anymore)?
  • Herro,

I'm listening to covers of melancholy songs on YouTube to facilitate my melancholy-ness.

I am having a really tough time at work and it is taking it's toll on me. I work with wonderful people in a wonderful place in a job that is mostly really wrong for me. And within the larger institution I have places to move, but there is nowhere to go within my little unit. It makes me sad that I'm realizing I have to leave, and sooner than originally planned. I am pretty upbeat and optimistic and good with challenges, but I'm a pleaser, and constantly feeling like I am bad at job is not something I do well with.

    /end whiny rant.

Sorry some of you guys aren't feeling well.

That sucks Jen.  I know changing jobs is scary and difficult, but you should do what you need to in order to be happy with your job.

  • Aww, that's a bummer Jens. How long do you plan on your MBA taking you? You were getting a pretty good price because you were an employee too, right?

It's mostly good.  I still definitely think I made the right choice.  It has it's challenges as well though.  There are some things I had naively hoped to be able to change (as a matter of educating my now-coworkers about my area of specialty and how we could/should fix problems in that area), but it turns out the problem was more related to constraints that we can't really help.  Was that vague enough?

  • I'll be done my MBA summer 2013. I wouldn't say I'm getting a good price, it's damn expensive yo - but yes, I do get an annual professional development allowance and a small tuition waiver each semester that does take some of the sting away.

I'd like to stay within the institution (university) if possible, so if that were the case, my school discount wouldn't be affected.

I think this might be the right thing overall. I've been kinda resting on my laurels, thinking I'll look around more once I'm finished my MBA. But really, we want to start a family as soon as I'm done, so that's not a great time to start looking for something new. I won't want to look for a big jump up when I have a 0-2 year old I'm thinking. I don't want to wait 4+ years to make a career move, so now (or not too long from now) is probably the time to get going.

Not that I'm looking to give my two weeks immediately or something. I know I just need to keep my eyes open and start putting feelers out. I know I'll find it difficult to do that while also staying present/engaged at work though, so it'll be tricky.

That stinks man. I know the frustration of constraints all too well. Is there any chance of it improving, or is it something you're just going to have to continue working around?

Well I think I can (and am already) help it improve some. The next step would be to attack it from another angle (can't reach these objectives given our funding and schedule constraints, so maybe we should officially change the objectives to something more realistic rather than continue to waive everything and end up with inconsistent results) and that will take a lot of work to get others on board to accomplish.

  • Hi. I'm waving, not drowning.

I was already feeling keyed up tonight when Mr M kinda checked out on parenting duties. When I nicely (I swear! I was nice!) he told me my response was "not rational". So now he keeps giving me mopey eyes and I still want to kick him in the shins.

Mmmmm, yummy beer get in my belly.

If I can find a way to upload them on the iPad, I took some pretty garden pictures today.

Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman
