DH got his permanent GC!!!

Just checked the mail and received a letter stating that "the provisional status of his residence was over" and that he's now got permanent status.

Yay! They said it could take up to a year but it only took 4 months :)

  • Congrats! I'm waiting for that little bit of paper to arrive from the Aussie government any day now. It's a bit nerve wracking isn't it?

When you are here on a green card it is 3 years til marriage. The provisional green card is 2 years, so it is 1 year after that.

My dh applied to have his lifted in July and was accepted in September, it wasn't long for us either!

It's only three years if you're married to an American. Otherwise it's five. Can I just say that it seems like yesterday you were moving back to the US? How has it been almost three years already?Congrats to Mr. Stever! Doing anything to celebrate?

Ah, good point! I should have clarified that :) And it has been 3.5 years since we moved back. It is very hard to believe!

    Yay! Thanks so much ladies.

Mr. Stever and I just had a toast. He had beer while I, sadly, had to stick to water.

And yeah, I think he can apply for citizenship in a year or two. He initially had no interest in becoming a citizen, but then we thought about how we could go back to the UK if we wanted, knowing that we could come back here and not have to do the whole GC thing again.

We have no plans to return to the UK soon, but it's nice to know that we could without making things harder for ourselves if we came back here... again.

    Sorry, that's really convoluted.
