Rock n Play users

Probably a dumb question.

We set ours up in our bedroom.  It has a strap to hold the baby in... I assume you need to use the strap, but can you do so and swaddle the baby?  Because the legs are supposed to go through the strap right?

  • We don't use the RnP, but it is the same setup as our swing.  When they're small, we would just push LO's legs to one side and snap it around his hips.  Now that he is bigger, we just swaddle his arms using the swaddle from this set:

*All of the other sleepsack swaddles seem to have the swaddling piece attached to the sleepsack, but this set (we got ours at BRU) has the swaddle as a separate piece so you can just swaddle the legs.

Also the Summer Infant swaddles have a hole that is supposed to work with these types of things, but I could never figure it out.  It looked to me like you would have to thread the strap through the hole and then swaddle them while they're laying in the device.  But maybe someone else knows how this works.

ETA: There's also a product called a Swaddle Strap that works like the swaddle in that Sleepsack set I linked.  http://annaandeve.com/why-swaddle-strap.html

  • We swaddled the girls and didn't use the straps.  Around 3 months we moved them to the cribs because they were squirming around in the RnPs and I was worried they were going to scoot out.  But, correct, if they are swaddled you can't use the strap.
  • We swaddled and didn't use the straps but if you want to, the Swaddle Me will let you. You put lay the swaddle down in the RnP, pull the straps through the hole in the back, put the baby in the swaddle and strap him in, then swaddle around his arms.

  • We didn't strap while swaddled.  Molly didn't like swaddling for long, but when she did she was way too little to get out of it.  We didn't use it for nighttime though, just for naps.  One of the best things we did was to put her in her crib early.  No transition, and she knows that's her bed.
  • We used it in our room, for nighttime, swaddled and no straps. There was no way he was going anywhere.
  • We swaddled, didn't use the straps. We moved her to her crib when she was about three months old. Prior to that, she wasn't moving around enough to make it dangerous for her not to be strapped in.
