S/O all the Stage 5 clingers lately. Poll!

What has been your worst Stage 5 clinger?

Mine was a FWB that I had after the X and I divorced. We were FWBs for a while (few years off and on). One day we were getting frisky and I noticed something very strange.... It was my name. Tattooed on his chest. Indifferent

Needless to say, when I called off the entire thing, it was NOT pretty.

Re: S/O all the Stage 5 clingers lately. Poll!

  • I had a stalker ex-boyfriend.  He broke down my front door, would follow me, come to my work all the time, called my mom and told her all this crazy stuff about me... Once he was following me in my car and I was at red light. He got out of his car and punched my window.  Thank God it did not break.  I tried to get a restraining order but at the time you actually had to live with someone to get a restraining order or something strange like that.  I can't remember exactly it was years ago.
  • I would consider Z a stage 5 clinger. I noticed a red flag when I realized that he was so antsy about living alone. He has to have a roommate and can't stand living alone. Then he blamed me for chosing his duty stationed because he only chose it because I was here.

  • Oh how could I forget my worst case, This guy I went to highschool with tried to be a replacement for my XH. I kept telling him I wasn't ready for anything and that I just wanted to be friends. He kept driving past my house, texting me all the time and even showing up in stores where I was.

It really got out of hand when during a snow storm, I had to go to walmart and he shows up there then proceeds to follow me up and down the aisles. Thank god I had my brother there. Luckily I haven't seen or heard from him since moving and changing my number.

  • My most recent was the DILF I saw for a few weeks back in November who told me he wanted me to meet his kids and spend Thanksgiving with them after only dating for a couple of weeks.  He was a chronic "good morning" texter, often waking me up with his texts and then sent "I miss you" ones after I left his house.

I had a threaten a TRO after he sent me scathing emails when I ended things--I used it more as a means to get him to leave me alone (I had no case for a TRO) but I knew he'd flip if something went on the record.  He was too afraid of losing custody of his kids.

  • There was this guy I'd met and given my number to, but not hung out with yet. We'd just talked here and there, I thought he was funny. Then he invited me out of the blue to a concert like an hour away, on the same night - so basically I'd have to leave my house right then, meet him there for a concert I didn't really care to see, and then spend the night with him. In Canada. When I said no, I didn't really want to do that, he started blowing up my phone with texts about needing to take a risk once in a while, I wouldn't regret it, and then phone calls. Ugh.

I don't know about you, but when something's small enough to send in a text, I hate having a phone conversation about it. I even told him that I would rather he text me than call. But he told me that was dumb... I would get phone calls from said guy for such things as :
"Heehee, I'm parked next to a car that has its headlight taped on with scotch tape."
"Hey im running like 5 minutes late"
It got to the point that hearing my phone ring made me angry. We never even got to the actual date, I told him: (via the preferred method, text) "Frankly you're driving me nuts and I don't want to talk to you again. Please don't call me."

It was my name. Tattooed on his chest. Indifferent  - That expression is an understatement!!!

I broke up with a guy I dated that was younger than me.  He took it hard.  I moved to a new place to "hide" from him and change all my contacts.

One weekend, I flew to Las Vegas with friends to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday.  I had a bad feeling the whole weekend and came home to discover he was camping in my bedroom the whole time.  I had a brand new roommate then and he somehow found my address and when she answered the door, he told her that I was just coming home from work and he beat me to the door so she let him in.

Still to this day, I fear he is going to surprise pop in my life again somehow.

  • Oh! Let's not forget the guy that I told: "i'm not ready for a relationship. Please remember, I just got out of a horrible marriage.I don't even know if I want to be married again. " To which he replied, "no, i think you're holding yourself back. you just know when you're ready."
Later the same week he let me know that he could be off work to go with me to Thailand! Ugh, he might as well have invited himself into my uterus to have my period with me. Get away.

  • I have been pretty lucky with the clingers. Although I did have a first (and last) date where the guy talked about marriage, kids, me meeting his family and the vacation that he was going to take me on in the fall.

  • I have one from back in '05.  I met a guy on Match, and for our first date he asked me to lunch on a weekday at a fancy restaurant close to where I worked.  I figured, why not?, and met him there.  We had a good time, and frankly, I was impressed that he spent that much money on a first date since most guys just ask me out for a drink or coffee.

Well, I was back sitting in my cubicle for maybe 15 minutes when a floral delivery guy showed up with a beautiful vase of flowers.  Again, I was impressed, and said thank you.

Then, he started emailing and calling a lot and bugging me for a second date.  I said yes, and we made plans to meet at his house and then go out to dinner.  I didn't go in, but met him in the parking lot of his condo complex.  We went out to dinner and he kept talking about our future and was very touchy-feely.  Then, when we got back to his place he was bugging me to go out for a ride on his boat.  I  just had an icky feeling about him, so I made up a story that I get seasick very easily.  I just didn't want to be stuck on a boat with him with no way off.  Then he started begging me to come in and stay the night.  I didn't feel comfortable with that, so I said goodnight.  Then he kissed me, and there were no sparks whatsoever.  I never saw him again.

  • I've never had a stalker situation per se but I've had a few clingers.  XH was probably the worst.  He wouldn't accept it when I broke up with him the first time, but I was also not firm enough (to take accountability for some of it).

I was living in OR and he said he was driving up to see me whether I wanted him to or not (after I'd broke things off).  Then he tried to make me feel guilty for acting creeped out when he got there.

He also kept showing up at my house after I kicked him out when we separated so we had to change the locks and I got a TRO.

M (date from this past weekend who gave me flowers/coffee yesterday) has definitely been a bit of a clinger and hopefully he just disappears.  I received several texts yesterday about how he hoped I knew he wasn't pouting at all.  He actually found a way to put a positive spin about the whole deal and got a good story and a laugh out of it all (not sure what that meant but I didn't ask).

He sent me a LONG text about how he really enjoyed getting to know me and he thinks I'm a beautiful person inside and out and enjoyed my company.  Then he said "don't be surprised if you get a call in a few weeks from me to see what you're up to".  Then he texted again saying I'd left my scarf from the other night in his truck.  Then he texted saying he wanted the vase back (from when he got me the v-day flowers).  Then I got a duplicate text of the first LONG text last night around 10pm.

Sounds like he's using the scarf and vase as an excuse to try to see you again.  Weirdo!

Wow, he sounds seriously psycho!  Did you really leave a scarf or was he just saying that?

  • Well u know about my recent and worst stage 5 clinger.(Loves me, I am his soulmate, etc)

He didnt stop texting me yesterday, so I had to get firm and direct with him and I told him that there is no future for us and please stop texting me.

I then got another text (after I sent the "stop texting me") that he was crying over me, etc. AND he said he will still wait for me....

Yeah...this guy has known me LESS than 1 week! CRAZY! Surprise

Yes because he texted me the pic of the scarf.  I don't like the scarf that much to see him again.  He can keep it.

  • Hmm...I just must not be as irresistable and unforgettable as you ladies, since I've never had a clinger experience!
  • My ex-FI. Embarrassed

When we first started dating, he said I love you after two weeks. I was like um what? (First red flag!) And he sent me over 500+ texts a month, all day long. Wanted to spend every day with me and would get offended if I wanted some time to myself.

I'm glad that relationship didn't work out!

  • I had first date with a guy that I wasn't initially that attracted to, but he was a lot of fun so I agreed to go out again. He picked me up and took me to a Red Sox game. He drove like an absolute LUNATIC on the way there. I am a Masshole through and through but this guy was whipping around corners on tiny side streets, slamming on the brakes, etc. It was obnoxious. Also, he must have been wearing contacts on the first date but when he picked me up the second time he had these giant coke bottle glasses on. I mean, I think I could have seen an astronaut on the moon in these things. Then at the game he was alllll over me, in the bleachers at Fenway Park. Practically on my lap, I was so embarrassed. It was so bad I could tell people were laughing at us.

Then when I turned down a third date he wouldn't stop calling/texting - said he would come by my house and check on me if he didn't hear back from because he was worried. Then he sent me a looooong email about how he looked up my Zodiac sign and realized he'd been too clingy with me. Then went on to tell me how much he'd spent on me "OVER $100!!!!!!". When in fact he'd provided the Sox tickets but I paid for parking and beers (the cost for that at Fenway could feed a 3rd world country for 3 months). Then later I was using a different dating site and I responded to a profile and HE responded with his photo attached - he was using fake pics to lure me in!
