DH and I are going on the Carnival Glory in June to Canada with friends. It isnt our first choice of cruises but thats all our friends could afford.
Have any of you sailed on this ship ? If so, I'd love your input. We already booked so we ARE going, I just was looking for your views on it.
I already checked cruise critic.
Re: Carnival Cruises
no but jsut a backstory. in 2008 we tagged along with dh's parents and some of their friends on a mediterranean 12 night cruise on the splendor. i too wasn't too excited about carnival but you know what? i loved it. the service is super (i mean absolutely stellar), the food's good, it's fun! i enjoyed it a lot and have gone on a 2nd once since then. i liked it more than princess (but not as much as cunard or disney). but i was pleasantly surprised! the room was big, the balcony nice and it wasn't expensive.
enjoy
you're welcome
and breakast room service on the balcony is the best!
will make note of that!!!
We sailed on this ship May 2011 on a western caribbean itinerary and had a wonderful time. We just had an interior room on the Empress deck and were fine with it. It was obviously small, but the space was used so well with closets, drawers, etc. that I never felt like we needed more space. We loved the staff and the food and would definitely sail Carnival again.
There are a couple of 2-person hammocks on the adult-only deck that are absolutely wonderful. We woke up early on our 2nd at sea day to make sure that we were able to enjoy one.
If you want to be outside but prefer something a little quieter than the main pool area, wander down to the 3rd deck where the lobby/bar/piano is. You can exit the sides of the lobby and there is a deck that runs along the side of the ship with some lounge chairs on it. It was nearly empty the times we went out there and it was kind of cool to be closer to the water.
The chocolate melting cake in the main dining room was hands down the most delicious thing I ate on the ship. Do make sure that you try it! Luckily they offered it as one of the desserts every night.
Also, make sure that you give the ship's entertainment a try. We saw 2 of the comedians and thought that they were both awesome. We also went to a show the one night that was primarily a magic show and also included upbeat music with choreographed dancing. We were both entertained, but it was just okay.
Have fun!
My husband and I took this trip last September for our first anniversary. We prefer to travel to warmer destinations but the dates and cost fit at the time. We had a really great time and were lucky to have great weather. (Not exactly swimming weather for us but we saw plenty of Canadians swimming when we went on the lobster bake!)
We love cruising and have had an opportunity to cruise Carnival, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. We like all of the lines for different reasons. I highly recommnend the Steakhouse ($30/person) and/or the Chef's table ($75/person). The Chef's table has limited seating (12 spots) so if you're interested you can pre-book by emailing the ship's steakhouse. You start with appetizers and champagne while touring the galley and then are escorted to a private area on the ship for a six course dinner. The chef presents each course and there is a wine pairing (unlimited) for each course.
Have a great time! I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.

We did this itinerary in June of last year and had a great time overall. Carnival is usually not our preferred line but I'm of the mind that there really is no bad cruiseline, it's all in your expectations. We were traveling with our son who had just turned 2 at the time.
Aft balcony cabin was really nice but we were directly over the karaoke bar. Now I know how I was able to score the usually coveted afts < 3 months before the trip. The rooms are on the bigger side though for standard cruise line rooms. Being in the back also meant that other than the karaoke bar, it was quiet and private - no one comes that far back other than occupants of the handful of neighboring rooms. No hall traffic.
The most confusing thing about the ship is the disconnect on the level where the dining rooms are. Because one of the MDRs is in the center of the ship, there are certain decks where you can't cross from forward to aft. I'm trying to remember where it's located, I want to say forward on deck 7, there's a quiet deck area that most people don't seem to know about. All the way at the very front of a stretch of staterooms, there's a door leading out. It was a very quiet secluded spot to get away from the crowds.
We loved that the aft pool deck area has a retractable roof. The canadian route will be COLD in June while you're out to sea. We tried to spend a little time in the adults-only serenity area (top deck forward) but the hot tubs were not really hot and it was cold and windy so we retreated to the indoor area. That being said, on our port days, we had beautiful weather, sunny and 70's, for touring the cities.
The food overall was good. We're not big on formal set time dining but we weren't able to get assigned to anytime dining so dinners were a little long for our preference. Thankfully, the staff is great with kids and helping keep our son smiling and there were some evenings where we took him to the kids club to eat since we knew he wouldn't sit well for 2 hours. The service from room stewards, restaurant staff, and bar/pool staff were excellent. We did the chef's table for $75pp and it was amazing! That was the highlight of our trip. The buffet is a bit of a mess, especially at breakfast. The food was decent but the traffic flow isn't good.
