Q about Baked Ziti?

If I assemble a baked ziti dish tonight and plan to bake it tomorrow evening would it be dried out?    This one calls for diced tomatoes, sauce, cream cheese and sour cream.  I just thought I'd save time tomorrow if I could assemble tonight.  TIA

Re: Q about Baked Ziti?

  • I would think it'd be fine.  I do this a lot with lasagna since it's so labor-intensive, and I've never had one seem dry.  If you're concerned, maybe reserve a bit of the sauce and pour it on before baking, then top with cheese.

  • eh-if it doesn't take too long to assemble maybe measure all out tonight so it's easy to throw together and bake tomorrow night. cooking the noodles then hving them sit is a no no. to me reheated pasta isn't very good you know?

  • I made my baked ziti like this last week - assembled the night before and then baked the next day.  I added some water to thin out my sauce, knowing that the pasta would absorb some in the fridge.  I made sure the pasta was al dente and also waited until both the pasta and the sauce were cold to mix them.

It was great. But if you're really worried, prep the sauce, cook and cool the pasta and have all ingredients ready to mix while the oven is preheating.
