Speaking of SF...

I forgot to check-in regarding my challenge. Did ANYONE put extra money in their savings or pay extra on CCs instead of spending it??? Or am I just going to hear crickets chirping?

Re: Speaking of SF...

  • yes and no.

I'm putting the last of any SP profits directly towards credit card.  I've reserved $75 for buying Lightroom.  I've been wanting it forever for picture editing, and it's regularly $300.  This was TOO good of a sale to pass up on something I wanted/needed to buy anyway.

All the money I've made off selling textbooks and work-related books has gone towards CC debt (around $250 so far).

Scott gets his bonus on this paycheck (tomorrow).  We're reserving a small chunk of it for him to spend on something fun (he's busted his butt this year, he's earned it), and the rest is going towards CC debt.

So we've spent some, but this week will be a really good week for paying down some CC debt.  And maybe some of that spending isn't very MM/SF, but life is about balance.

  • Not so much putting anything in spending or towards the CC, but over the weekend I did cancel and cut up every CC that had my name on it... so that's a start, right?

I'd say you did very well! That's a lot of money towards CCs in a week! A+ for you, you definitely deserve a little splurge :)

  • And now we're getting grades, LOL.

It's like you're the Warden and the Principal all rolled into one....

  • We received about $3200 in tax refunds this year, and about $3000 of it went to pay off cards. The other $200 went towards a new vacuum.

Haha, I did get my degree in Elementary Education. It must be the teacher in me :)

I'd say that is pretty darn good! Just think of all the interest you will save!

  • We don't carry cc debt, so it is just savings for us.  I put $200 more than normal for the month of Feb. in savings plus the largest part of my bonus (80%, 10% splurged and 10% spent on unexpected pet costs- needle biopsy and antibiotics) and all of our tax return.

Last week I was naughty with my spending, but you'll be happy to know the only things I've bought this week were a roll of white thread (because I ran out with 10" left on Kirk's anniversary quilt) Monday, a new pair of black flats for work (mine had a toe poked through them last week, dog meds Tuesday and a Google deal for a local grocery store today (we go weekly anyway, so 50% off is a win).

    Haha!

    A) I am envious of your tax return amount.

    B) Yes, that definitely helps your cause :)

    Right? holy bejeeeezus.

But you might want to look into adjusting your witholdings so that you get most of that in your paychecks instead of a huge lump sum at the end of the year. The government is totes loving your interest free loan to them.

Oh I know.... I know..... I don't know much about money, but I do know this much.  And of all people, my husband is convinced if we start messing around with our withholdings we'll end up paying the the end.  SMH.

I claim 4 because I'm the one who carries our insurance. Guy claims 2. We still got back a good chunk of money.

  • I did not.  We spent it with Alex's birthday coming up. I get paid at the end of next week and there are three pay checks in March which will be awesome so the extra will go straight towards debt.  My savings took a blow these last two months with some unexpected costs which would have been offset by our tax refund but we opted to put all of our refund straight towards debt.  So my savings will start rebuilding now.

Dude, we have 0 and are married withholding as single, and if I hadn't paid the vast majority of my bonus in taxes we would have owed.  Jealous!!!

  • Confession.  I don't understand the whole tax withholding thing at all.  I think mine is set for 0 now.  It was 1.   We got back $4500 from both federal and state and we file jointly.  $3,000 went to debt, $500 went to a new fridge for our tenants because the one we had up there died, and the remaining $1000 will be going in my mouth in the form of two crowns....yay!
