I called around and found a PCP that comes recommended and takes my insurance, but she doesn't have appointments for 2 weeks.
There's a Doctors Care nearby. Has anyone been to one of these? What's it like? Does insurance cover places like this?
I've had a cough, fever, nausea, and sinus like ickiness for weeks. Should I try the Doctors Care? I miss having military doctors.
Re: S/O clinics
Call your insurance company and see if they are accepted there.
I've never even heard of that clinic but I assume its like a walk in clinic as well as a clinic. I've gone to a walk in clinic before and it was about the same care that a normal doctor would give
I've never heard of that specific clinic but my sister has tried a few walk in clinic for flu like symptoms and has never been properly diagnosed and always ended oup having to see a primary care Dr. Also after H's experience, I dont know that I would go back to a clinic.
I had symptoms like yours a few years back, avoided the Dr for weeks and ended up with pneumonia. I would call the PCP and beg to get in sooner, say you think you might have bronchitis or pneumonia. I hope you can get in!
I'm not a fan of the walk-in type clinics. I either feel like they are pushing me out the door or they misdiagnose me.
I once ended up hospitalized because they said I had a certain type of pneumonia and gave me medication. Turns out they were wrong and I had a different type that reacts horribly to the meds I was given.
This is exactly what I was going to say. A doctor brushed me off saying I had a stomach virus when I knew that wasn't the case. I had an appendicitis and was rushed to surgery the next day. Looking back on it, the symptoms should have been very obvious to him and could have been caught sooner. I probably should have gone to the ER instead of the clinic anyway though.
That said, I don't necessarily think all docs at clinics are bad and it's definitely convenient for a minor issue. But since they're super busy and don't know your history I'd avoid it if you can, especially since you've had a lingering illness that keeps coming back.
Good luck. I hope you feel better soon!
I was already leary of the clinics and ya'll confirmed my fears.
I'll call my 2nd choice doc tomorrow and see if they have any openings. Thanks!
I haven't been to that specific one, but there are several near us that we've been to. Our insurance has always been accepted, but you can call and ask just to make sure.
If you have to wait 2 weeks for a regular doc, I would definitely go to the clinic.
ETA: I just read everyone elses responses and just wanted to say that we've never had an issue with a walk in. We've been to them maybe 5 times or so, and they've always been helpful and diagnosed us correctly. Maybe we're just lucky, who knows.
I haven't had too bad of luck at walk-ins. Does your local dr.'s office have a walk-in night? Ours have certain hours you can go and see one of the resident docs.
