Considering a Cruise to Bermuda - Recos on Must Do Activities?

My husband and I are considering a cruise to Bermuda leaving out of NYC on 9/2/12.  We have cruised a number of times but have never been to Bermuda. We will have almost 3 full days to explore and I'm looking for some recommendations. We love the beach, swimming, snorkeling, exploring and tours. TIA! :)

Re: Considering a Cruise to Bermuda - Recos on Must Do Activities?

  • My family went on a cruise to Bermuda in 2010...we had such a blast! We took a tour with Heidi at Bermuda Byways ( http://www.bermudafootsteps.com/home )...it was one of the best tours I have ever taken! I was nervous to use her because I hadn't found many reviews, but she was the most responsive by email and the price was right (I apologize that I don't remember the exact amount). She took us all over the island in a small bus (it was essentially a private tour, because our family filled up the vehicle!). She knew so much about the island and she stopped a few times to say hello to people that she knew. I guess some people would not like this, but one of the best things about Bermuda is the people and how connected they all are. She was only supposed to spend a couple hours with us and we were with her all day! We appreciated the extra time, even though it was unexpected. She was happy to accommodate our needs/wishes (we really wanted to see one of the sea glass beaches, for instance). I have some pictures of our cruise here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jenniferthurston/sets/72157623822498533/

Sorry, that is long - hope that helps!

  • if you' ve never been on a segway, I'd suggest the tour on them! We did it in Kings Wharf and had a blast!!!
  • We enjoyed renting a scooter and just driving around. Take at least a half day and wander the shops in downtown Hamilton. The really old part on the far east side... St. George maybe? Also a fun town to wander around.

Thanks for the info! The pics are great!  They definitely gave me the travel bug. We're just waiting a couple weeks to ask for the time off since we recently returned from vacation. :o) We love taking tours with locals. Their enthusiasm is so contagious. It sounds like a great option. Which ship/line did you take?. Thanks!!!

BTW - I am counting down to 3/23.  Great signature pic!

We took a Royal Caribbean cruise to Bermuda/Bahamas (my mom's choice since we were traveling for her 50th birthday). I've also cruised with Princess before and it was very nice - we are doing a Baltic cruise with them this May. I don't think you could go wrong either way! FYI - This won't affect many people, but Princess no longer allows smoking on balconies, but I believe Royal Caribbean still does.

I'm so glad you like the cookies in my signature! I'm embarrassingly excited for the movie :)

  • We just went to Bermuda this past September on NCL and really loved the island. We did a horse-drawn carriage ride around King's Wharf and it was very cool. Horseshoe Bay Beach was gorgeous, and it wasn't as crowded as I expected it to be. Our best excursion was a sunset catamaran cruise that lasted about 2 hours and had all-you-can-drink rum swizzles :) St. George's is only a half-day trip, IMHO, because there wasn't as much there as I expected. I wish we spent more time in Hamilton than we did as well. Have fun!

Thank you for the suggestion!  I have always wanted to try a segway but I am not the most coordinated person on the planet. I'm going to look into it.

I'm beginning to think that 2 1/2 - 3 days is not going to be enough. I'll just have to convince my husband to go again to see what we missed.  Thanks for the info!

Thanks!  Right now the Norwegian Star is our top pick but we're still going back and forth.

We'll definitely want some beach time so I'll make sure to add Horseshoe Bay Beach to the list.  I'm looking forward to it!
