So I have to give the vase back....

The beautiful fire and light vase that M brought me on v-day when he surprised me with flowers.  Yup, now that I told him I wasn't interested he wants it back.  He told me "I want the girl who puts flowers in that vase to be thinking of me, and I've had it a long time".

That's fine he can take the vase back I do not care, HOWEVER I looked on his Facebook page and saw that a few months back he had taken a pic of flowers in THE EXACT SAME VASE and given them to someone else.  Apparently his MO is:

-give a girl flowers in beautiful vase

-take said vase back when girl breaks it off with him

-move on to the next girl and try his luck again with the same vase

-lather, rinse, repeat

So while I can appreciate that the vase is the gift that keeps on giving, I guess it's not bringing him that much luck because he has to keep asking for it back.  Stick out tongue

Re: So I have to give the vase back....

  • One of these days he is going to run into a woman who tells him that the vase was a gift and she is under no obligation to give it back...

If it means that much to him he shouldn't give it to people he has been out with once.

  • Apparently that vase is not a good luck charm, I'm glad your getting rid of it! Stick out tongue
I wouldn't change a thing...it's all led me to you.
  • I wouldn't give it back. I'd tell him he gave it to you as a gift and he needs to cut his losses. You can be super snarky and say, "Anyway, I saw that you have given a girl flowers in this same vase before me and that didn't seem to go so well either, so maybe you should try a new vase."

This made me LOL.  I can't do that though!  That'd be so mean!

I wanna see a pip of that vase!  How whacky this is, this over 1 date?!?!?!

  • OK, here's the vase even though the pic is sideways.  Definitely worth all of the giving and taking back.

I'm usually the nice one, but I totally agree...I wouldn't give it back. And I'd be snarky about it!

  • Dude, no offense but I would totally not give it back. It was a gift, first off. Secondly, he was WAY aggressive when you asked him not to be. Even if you took it and smashed it into a million pieces for a mosaics project, its your right. But, to each. If he wants it that bad, give it back to him as a mosaics project HAHA.
    Any way the wind blows...
  • Wow he's seriously whacked. I'd make a snarky comment about how you saw it on fb and that he should get another one to bring him better luck.

  • He's ridic. I wouldn't give it back, because I wouldn't want to engage him at all. It's a gift and he's just being manipulative. No more responding to this guy.
  • That is so insane. Guys are so weird!

  • I would tell him you'll leave it outside your house on a certain date.  If he doesn't pick it up that day, just keep it.  I had to do that when an ex-bf left stuff at my house.  I wasn't going to go out of my way to return it.

  • Maybe he's just being eco friendly?  ;)
  • in case you need confirmation that the guy was a nut job!
  • Just indicative of what a weirdo he is!
  • I can't see the pic of the vase.

Is it made out of his mother's ashes or something? Is that why it's so freaking special?

And WHO gives someone something "special" to them after the first frigging date in the first place?

Good point!  I never thought of it that way.  Recycle, reduce, reuse.

I am not engaging with him at all and he's not trying to contact me.  He mentioned the vase on wednesday when he tried to win me over with flowers and coffee and showed up at my work.  And it was a gigantic fail.  He texted about the vase then.  Since then no contact and I'm grateful for that.  I figured I'd post about the vase since it was sitting on my desk and I was reminded of it.
