anyone PCSed to a non-military location?
Who handles our shipment on the inbound side? We're moving to Syracuse, NY. The nearest installation is Ft. Drum. Will their TMO office be our contact? And am I right in already thinking that moving to a non-military location is one of the most frustrating moves ever? It's kind of sucking from the start!
Re: anyone PCSed to a non-military location?
Best of luck! We are in the midst of our move. . . And it's not fun. The OCONUS aspect sucks.
yes! it does. a lot. Then add in moving to a non-military location from OCONUS, it's ridiculous. Although, I'd rather be doing this than moving to another country with a toddler and a dog! I hope things are going ok for you guys.
We actually were in Syracuse about a year and a half ago when H was there on shore duty. I wasn't part of the PCS there since we met while he was there, but when we did our PCS out of there we didn't have any problems. H had set up everything online, and we had no issues with them showing up or anything.
I don't even know what branch you are, but do you know where in Syracuse you'll be?
Army. and we're planning on being within a very short walking distance from the university.
We're moving there from Hawaii, so I'm pretty concerned about the climate shock, but it does seem like a really great city. I've heard nothing but good things about it. And Syracuse University seems like a really fun community. I think we're going to enjoy it there.
The good thing is it's a really mild winter around there, and summers gets really nice, so you'll have some time to work your way into it. There are lots of great summer concerts and festival things they do, and then if you like sports then you'll get some great games to watch. We definitely enjoyed being there.
Live UP the hill. UP. Otherwise I'd be so scared! Hopefully next winter is as mild as this one has been! Enjoy it, I miss home!
