Moving across the country, stressed, falling off the wagon.

Anyone been there done that?

I have 10-12 lbs left to lose, and I really want to lose it by June 1 so we can start TTC #3.

We just found out we are moving from MN to Columbus, OH in 4 weeks.  We need to fix our house (basement flooded- contractors have started but it is a mess).  Fix a few things upstairs.  Declutter the entire house.  Pack and move the entire house.  Paint the entire house- but not too soon or the rugrats will just ruin it again!  Get it on the market.

Ok..... deep breaths.  I have completely fallen off the wagon.  I am getting to the gym less bc I am sending the kids to a sitter and working on house stuff a few days a week.  On those days I can't make it to the gym.  Then I am majorly stress eating (esp at night- today I did great all day, then bedtime was horrible so I ate a giant bowl of ice cream).  Sigh.....

I need to at least get through the next 5-6 weeks without gaining more (I bet I have already gained in the last week).   It would be nice to actually keep losing.  But all I seem to be losing is my mind.

  • Sometimes you just have to do the best you can. Life happens. Maybe you can work on eating healthy instead of getting to the gym for the next few weeks. Eat as cleanly as possible, cook healthy dinners for you family, etc. Get the kids outside, play with them, go to the park if you can.
  • If y'all are doing these things on your own you may not be working out but you will be plenty active.  If you can't make it to the gym for four weeks you will live.  I'd try to go to the gym 2-3 times a week and try and eat well.
  • Moving is serious business. I feel your pain. I am in the middle of a big move too. Ditto PP in that you'll get some exercise in if you are doing it yourself. I had a lot of stuff in my attic that I had to carry down 2 flights of stairs, pack in a moving truck, and then unpack when we got to our destination. It was tiring and stressful! I kept up my running but let everything else fall to the wayside, and I didn't feel bad about that. I ate like crap because we didn't have our kitchen set up for a few days. Eh, it happens. I did the best I could. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Also know that moving don't last forever and you will be able to get back on track once it is over.

  • We moved from California to Columbus in 2009.  The weeks leading up to the move were pretty busy and stressful, and my H and I were also both working full time.  I didn't get much exercising done, though lifting all those boxes was quite a workout!

Make sure to make a little bit of time for yourself in the next few weeks, if you can.  Also, research gyms near you in Columbus so that when you get here, you have somewhere to go right away.

Columbus is awesome; I absolutely love it here, and I've lived all over the place.  I'm in Clintonville, which is such an adorable neighborhood; tons of families, super walkable, near the Olentangy Greenway trail, beautiful old houses, lots of neat local businesses within walking distance, very safe, etc.  I love Columbus!

We are somewhat limited on where we can live bc DH's job is in Granville, so we want to stick with an eastern suburb.  We are going to look at apartments and rental houses in Gahanna and New Albany, mostly.  I would love to live in Worthington (apparently the "city proper" is walkable and has a cute downtown) but I can't find much for rent, and we are worried the commute would be too long.  Feel free to share any advice you have!

As most of you mentioned, I am not as worried about the exercise, bc I will be pretty physically active with the moving.  But I am worried about my stress eating!   That I need to figure out how to get under control better.

  • Bexley is inside 270, but it's on the eastern side of Columbus.  It's super adorable and safe.  If we hadn't ended up in Clintonville, we would've been in Bexley.  It's convenient to 70 as well.

Gahanna is OK...seems kind of boring to me (though boring is better than scary, I suppose).

Worthington is a wonderful little town, though it would be quite a hike to Granville every morning.
