Quick Question re: coconut milk

Does anyone drink/use coconut milk?

We have some and my H left it out on the counter all night......I don't know if it is alright or not. I know they sell some that is unrefrigerated and some in a can...but this kind is the refrigerated kind.....does it make a difference?

please tell me i don't have to throw away a whole, basically full, half-gallon of coconut milk......?

Re: Quick Question re: coconut milk

  • hmmm, I'm guessing it would be okay, but normally they are only "shelf-stable" until you open them- then refridgerate... probably wouldn't test it out if it were me.
  • You're probably fine, but i personally would hesitate to drink it.  Coconut is pretty good at preventing microbial growth, but it's probably got sugar, etc. in it, which aid microbial growth.

  • I would taste it and if it tastes fine, not worry then. It's not like the temperatures have been high at night. Then again, I'm a lot less paranoid about this stuff than other people. :)

This.  I love coconut milk, and we've accidentally left it out before, and it was fine.  If it was "real" milk, I would definitely say toss it, but coconut milk is basically just fruit and water.

  • Just overnight, I'd probably use it. Maybe only use it in cooking.
