Moving and utilities where we are now..
This may be a long shot but we are closing on our home the 27th of April. We are renting a townhouse right now and will be off the lease May 1st. How do we let the town we are in now know that we aren't going to be the ones paying utilities in May and to stop them in our name? Does our landlord have to put them all in his name?
Does this even make sense???
I should probably just call our city but every time I do I am on hold.. (we live in a BIG city!)
Re: Moving and utilities where we are now..
Quite simple. Just call the utility companies and tell them you are moving. Tell them the date you want service terminated in your name and give them your new address for your final billing. That's it!
It will be up to the landlord to call and arrange for service to be put back into their name. Some landlords have utilities set up so that when tenant terminates service, the service automatically goes in landlords name so there is no interruption of service.
Thanks! I thought that was what I would have to do but I didn't want to call and sound like a total moron.
